my 2010 V6 Camaro Review
I am fortunate enough to have a friend who was fortunate enough to get to drive a V6 Camaro. Specifically it is V6 6-speed manual (1LT). So I asked him if he could share with me a little insight that I could then share on the site. He said sure so here goes.
He has put several hundred miles on the car (probably over 900 by now) and was very impressed with the overall package. He said that the V6 has a lot of power and is getting impressive fuel economy (especially considering that he was not driving it to optimize fuel mileage). He was wondering why people were questioning the V6. He felt that 99.9% of people would be surprised by the power of the V6 and that most people would find that it was more than enough power (excluding crazy Camaro5 fanatics who just HAD to have a V8 -gtahvit, DragonEye, etc...). He added that the car had awesome handling on top of the power and the looks. He also noted that it had great acceleration off the line and across the board even in 6th gear when running 55-65 MPH. Anyway, I thought that those who ordered the V6 or anybody who was on the fence concerning the V6 would find this review interesting. The great news about this car is that GM produced something for everyone - V6 with great fuel mileage, a V8 with impressive fuel mileage in both auto and manual options, as well as packages that should be able to grab customer in quite a range of demographics. And by the way, he said that everyone seems to love the looks of this car, especially the ladies! |
Nice write up, thanks. I think the V6 is going to be a real barn burner when it hits the lots. I myself had to have V8, but I did consider the V6 because it is real good package!

I am very excited about the V6... It will be a great choice for those of us that want a Camaro but either can't afford or do not need a V8.. Those that choose the V8 are going to have an exceptional car too.. Gosh I am excited!!!:happyanim:

I'm getting the V8, but am still glad to hear any and all good reviews of the new Camaro. Anyway you take it guys, your car will ROCK!!! :headbang: |
Thanks! I honestly don't think they will be able to keep the V6's on the lot when it comes out. Good MPG, power, and price plus its a CAMARO!

Going out today to finalize my 2LT RS IOM .............thanks for letting me know ...........great review.

What??!! This is a V6??!! Are you sure it's a V6??!! I mean, are you REALLY sure it's a V6?? I was waiting for him to stop the car and make them open the hood. :sm0: |
Pete,
Be sure to thank your friend from us for giving you the green light to post his comments. Yes, I'm also a V8 junkie, but, My guess is there will be some sleeper V6's the will be absolutely stunning... I'd seriously consider having the V6 for the wife if she didn't love her Tahoe so damn much... |

There is probably no better American made stock V6 that is better than this one. And when the kits come out to "upgrade it" run for cover chally and rustangs...

I think the V-6 will be the model that makes this car a financial success for GM. This is not your father's 6 cylinder engine. It is an overhead cam motor with variable valve timing and 300 horsepower- very 21st century and about time that American car makers do some innovative engineering IMO. AND the kicker is that you can get one in the low 20's that looks just as good as the 2SS cars in the mid 30's (also a deal compared to other cars of that horsepower). I think it's a home run and will sell really well for people who can't afford a high priced car.
The price and performance will take a chunk out of the flanks of the Mustang for sure. ;) |
I can't wait till mine gets here.

I was quite surprised that the base Camaro is getting the direct injection version of the 3.6L. I guess its fairly cheap for them to add DI to the regular 3.6

2100 Mile Update
My friend sent me an update on his thoughts on the car at 2100 miles...
In 2100 miles of mixed driving, I have averaged 20.8 as of this morning. I have the 18" and the ride is not bad, its not a Buick or a Caddie, but it 'feels' like a performance car. Almost as good handling as the Solstice, with very little sway even on rough roads at high speeds. But I have experienced road hum at all speeds, mine is an early car though. Perhaps it accelerated so smoothly that it felt less than rocket-like from a standstill. The engine shone in the middle speed ranges, though. Nail the throttle to pass and, yowzah. Throaty, old-days exhaust sound, too. (Italics portion is from an article.) This is very true with the V6, it accelerates very smoothly but even at hwy speeds it still has 'punch'. I feel the tracks and rough roads, but as above, no worse than an Impala and much better than anticipated. Gripes: Rear seat access is limited, and depending upon driver and front passenger seat arrangement, rear seat space is limited for adults and large children. The center of seat release is awkward to engage and not intuitive to find. Nice feature is the easy release seat belt strap on front seat to move the seat belt out of way for rear access. One of my biggest dislikes is the steering wheel design with the sharp angle center spokes; very difficult to access the radio controls that are close to the center hub. But the cross section feels great to me; very comfortable. The telescoping feature is also a nice touch, allowing for comfortable positioning of the wheel as well as a safer positioning for the airbags. The 6 speed manual takes a little getting used to in 2 areas: reverse is pushed to lthe eft and then up next to 1st,; easy to miss the gear for many drivers (although this has not been an issue for me). The issue I have had is going from 5th to 4th when I really wanted to go from 5th to 6th. Finally have the hang of it but it took a while. Three other critiques I have: 1) sun visors - on the 1LT at least they do not extend, making them worthless for driving when the sun is low and on the drivers side. 2) lack of a grab handle on passenger side for access and egress. May be an age factor here, but everyone that sits in it seems to notice (even a 20-something has complained about it). 3) Passenger seat does not have seat height adjustment, this combined with the high belt line of the car makes for a low ride for the passenger. My wife can barely see over the dash and the long hood. On a side note though she LOVES the car. These are minor issues and the car is still a great ride and boy does it get the looks!!! :confused0068: :D |
That's the kind of honest review I like to read. I'm glad to see some gripes, and I'm glad to see some discussion of the manual transmission in the V6 car.
|
haha i dont know why i read these reviews.
they are all the same.... they all say its a super great amazing car... and it makes me want it even more!! and i have a longgg wait |
Thats an awesome review.
really made me give the V6 another look. that is an awesome machine. really did set the V6 bar high. |
If you use it as a every day driver the v6 should do the trick!!!
Thanks for the review |
