I ordered my car on November 9, 2009. The dealer said it would take about 5 weeks and I might get it before Christmas. I thought he meant Christmas of this year. ;)
The TPW was set at 12/21, but that week has come and gone and my car is still listed as "order broadcast" on the tracking site. I have been very thankful to those who have posted pictures of their Camaros especially while I've been waiting for my car to arrive. I never get tired of looking at Camaros and reading others' stories about their cars. So, I'm starting this thread to begin telling the saga of a car I don't yet have. When I get it, I promise to post pictures and share mods too. I have ordered a 2SS/RS in CGM. Automatic. I can drive a stick, but I really just prefer automatics. Some might think that's not cool to drive an automatic Camaro. That's okay. You get what you like, I'm getting what I like. To each their own. I also ordered a trunk mat for it. I heard that it helps to dampen road noise (I do not plan on putting anything "messy" in my car). The interior is black leather. Sweet. So, that's what it will come with "stock." Here is what I am planning to do with my Camaro after I get it: Hood spears, glossy black with "SS" stenciled on them with the CGM peaking through. I know that the black won't stand out against the CGM. I want it to be subtle and classy. Paint the strip between the tail lights glossy black (the trunk strip). Black out the bow ties. My brother and a buddy of his do high-quality custom paint on cars. I may have them to the paint work, but he lives 400 miles from me. If they can do it over a long weekend, that might work. Purchased a set of blue LED lights to replace the dome light. I bought a set of 2 so I can do the trunk light too if I want to. I've already purchased a set of Lloyds mats with "Camaro SS" embroidered on them in black. Funny how much stuff I have purchased for a car I don't even have yet. I bought a "no drill" front license plate bracket on ebay. I'll take pictures and report on that too. Window tinting - think I'll go 35% sides and back. Ohio law says the front sides shouldn't be lower than 50%. I'm hoping I can get away with 35%. Debating on doing the following: I may black out the tail lights, backup lights, and side marker lights. I need to find a material to do this that will not wear out. I don't want to do it again and I want it to look good for a long long time. When I'm convinced that such a material exists, I'll do the lights. Blue LED footwell lighting. Have ******** put in 2 10" subs in the trunk with an amp. Going to wait to hear what the sound system sounds like first. Powder coat the wheels to a charcoal gray. Gill fades. LEDs for the daytime running lights. Okay, that's enough for a first post. Please feel free to comment on this work in progress. I'm counting on it. |
Have you tried spastic squirrel website to try and find your car? What dealer did you order from? I hope your car is built but I bet it is lost in the holiday shuffle.
|
Yeah, I tried spastic squirrel. It doesn't show up. My dealer promised he'd call me as soon as he has a VIN and he is checking every morning (he said they get updates around mid morning). We want to do the paperwork before Jan. 1 if possible so I can take advantage of the tax break for 2009. But, no word yet.

I got my VIN today! Thanks to BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet. She pm'd me this morning to tell me. My dealer also sent me an email around mid day to tell me I have a VIN. So, he was able to put my car into his computer system and check on the USAA rebate to see if I qualify and he said that I do. Ya me! I get an extra $750 off the price of the car. That's cool. He also mentioned that he thought the car should arrive sometime during the last week of January.
I ordered a dash plaque from dragonZ28 today too. The thread about those is here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32234 Also, I have been pm'ing with steve at ******** as to what kind of subsystem to install in the trunk and how to install it. So, I made some progress today. |
She's almost HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh I remember so well what you are feeling right now. Enjoy this, seriously. The wait is an exciting part of the process.

I found the tint shop I'm going to use today. There is a shop in Columbus and they have a great reputation with the local shops that do tunes and mods. Mr. Tint. I called him and got a quote of $229 using the best "film" he has.
I also got the name of a custom paint shop for my spears and I sent them an email. Car update from the tracker says: "Status: Available to Ship from Rail Yard." It's getting close! |
Got another update this weekend. My car has been trucked to Dearborn, MI and is awaiting a truck to my dealer here in Ohio. I think I may get my car this week!
I've been spending my time reading the Junkman's threads on cleaning and maintaining the finish on my new car. Looks like Adam's polishes will be getting some of my money soon! Here are the 2 threads that link you to his videos (well worth watching all of them!): http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59171 and http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59649 |
Got the news today I have been waiting for. My car has been DISPATCHED from the rail yard in Dearborn, MI and is on its way to Ohio. w00t! I'm so psyched. Not sure I'll get much sleep tonight. The camera batteries are all charged up!
|
Am I going to be seeing another CGM on campus soon? :D
