Real world L99 Gas mileage
So i have had my car exactly one month now. 2011 1SS/A6. I Have driven 1,332 miles. 210 of that was all highway speeds of 55-65MPH. I drive 50 miles daily commute about 2/3rds of it is slower stop light traffic with the other third being roughly 40-50mph. It's nice weather here 60-70 most days.
Tire pressure is perfect and i have literally only really gotten on it say 3 times for less that 1 mile each time. Speedo has seen over 80mph exactly 3 times after 750 mile break in oil change period. Smoked tires exactly twice for a short rip. Car has had only top tier 93 octane in it since first fill up at dealer. Here are my totals and even though it doesn't sway me in the least,Even if i got 10mpg i'd still love it. However i do call BS on the so called stated MPG numbers on the window sticker (Not GM's fault in any way) considering i'm at the very very low end of the stated MPG on the sticker and the fact that 30% of my driving has been at or near highway speeds. The first 200 miles were almost exclusively highway miles and i still only managed avg 20mpg and never broke 65mph. 1,332 miles / Avg speed 26.9MPH / Avg MPG 16.9 16.9??? Window sticker. 16 city / 25 hwy / 19 combined avg. I can see each week the avg mpg slowly drops further and further. Just installed a CAI Inc induction on Sunday hope that helps even a minute amount. What kind of mileage are you seeing in your L99's? |
You could reset the MPG and see if it improves after like a week or so.

back when it was nice enough to drive mine i would get about 16-17 mpg city. driving aggressive. best i ever got on the highway was 24mpg.
if i wanted gas mileage i would have gotten a prius. i dont have any mods to speak. |
I drive my L99 like I stole it, have done a some high speed runs, lay into the gas heavy, they may limit how fast I can go, but they cant control how quick I get to that speed. I am about a 50/50 mix of highway and city. And everything is stock.
My stats: 3891 miles, and 16mpg according to Onstar Mylink, its put away for the winter. I am not sure on avg speed, but last time I looked it was around 40 mph. I am sure I could get it to come up, but what fun would that be? |
I have never even checked to see what kind of mileage I get, does not matter to me.

27300 miles, LT headers, HIgh flow cats, Solo mach XL exhaust, CAI intake. 100 miles a day, I reset MPG at every fillip and also track Gas, mpg a service with iphone app. I get 21-22 mpg highway/16-18 mpg around town. TUne hasn't been done yet due to snow.

Make sure you reset it each time you fill up.

We took it to Sturgis this past year..2500kms or 1500 miles...other than taking it up to top speed twice on the flattest stretch of raod on earth, I kept it around 60 - 65...best mileage I got was 23mpg
Around town, I tried running driving it like a granny, shifting early, and best I saw was around 13...when I drive it as I would normally I get around 9 - 10mpg I dont know who is driving those cars at GM to rack up those numbers, but I dont care...I pull up to the pump, dump in more gas and have some fun....when I want gas mileage, I'll drive my son's Cobalt - all 120HP of it. |

25,000 miles on her. With a CAI Intake, resonator delete, X-Pipe and GMPP catback. On the highway 25-26MPG. In town going 0-speed limit as fast as I can 13.6MPG.
Now 2 weeks ago I installed an CNC VMax Throttle Body I got from Mike Norris Motor Sports and I am now getting 15.8 0-speed limit as fast as I can. And you have to know I enjoy my car since I am on my 3rd set of rear tires. |
Try a fuse pull. Average about 15 mpg in town on my 11 2SS. Haven't gotten it out on the highway for any trips.

Mine keeps settling right around 16.3.
Guy who transferred it to my dealer from another 340 or so miles away via interstates mostly got 20.1. |
Though 60-70% of my driving is highway, I consistently get 20-21 mpg with LMR intake, Magnaflow muffler delete, Livernois tune, and I drive hard.
