Goodbye HRP. It was nice while it lasted.

In the 80s we had Houston International Raceway off of 45 south near the Santa Fe exit. It was advertised as the home of the Armadillo Nationals. Its demise came sometime in the early 1990s. HRP then showed up soon after and had a decent run.

Gotta be difficult and expensive in todays world to run a track. Near me we had KID for sometime. It's leased land with a track. Most recently there where 3 guys running it that did a pretty good job. They gave it up last year and someone new stepped up. Rumor is it will not reopen this year. It's in an area where as commercial property is valuable and the owner will probably cash in. It never had a big draw and at only $20 for TNT nights cant imagine covering cost to run a small track. The 3 guys put together some big events to pay the bills and where very involved. The last people not so much. Not saying they didn't try but I went only once last year as the track wasn't in great shape or organized. Here's hoping it stays open but doubtful as the website and Facebook are both down now. Just don't think most people understand everything it takes to keep a track running let alone profitable, especially the older smaller ones.

Lot of smaller local tracks have gone by the wayside as well. Not just from being tough to financially operate but, from those who are “inconvenienced” by the noise and demand they be shut down.

I spent a lot of time there in the 90's when the Angel bros owned it. It was the 2nd or 3rd "super track" built after the first one in Dallas.

I ran a best of 13.66@101 in my 89 LX Mustang on a street tire and mild mods.

Going to Super Chevy Show there back in the day was so much fun.
