No, I don't think the ECM is controlling that and I also don't think the first time you ran it dry it would kill the pump either. Pretty sure GM didnt see a need to invest the time to make it do...

Powering the remote is what connects the big power through the relay to your pump, but I'd be careful not to backfeed the car and dont run your pump dry.

I did this when I was in High School and when I put the hood back on it was perfect. This is great advise for anyone. I drilled a hole the size of the nails that I used to realign. Works like a champ.
