As Jonny already mentioned, you cannot see anything from the trunk side and you do not lose any space in trunk when using original sub location ....

You have to cut the white/whiteblack wires between 44pin harness and METRA blackbox and connect a small speaker to these 2 wires coming...

Also check if the 10pin connector is still well connected in the HVAC module....

Mine got loose a bit and i had similar problems like you describe. Also disconnect/connect battery again might help...
