Personaly I am not very found of Ca. beaches now.

No worries...thats always good advice. Tourists can be a target for a determined crook. Always good to take precautions. Don't know what beach you were at, but it could happen anywhere. I've gone to local beaches all my life, and so has my kid...never had a problem.
