I also have a long commute, 90 miles daily round trip. I made the decision to purchase a Hyundai Elantra, it gets great gas MPG and the maintenance cost is low.
If it were my decision I would probably get the Civic they are better high mile cars. I owned a 1995 CAV and a 2003, they were both pretty good cars, not sure how a CAV will hold up to 25k a year though especially on top of the 112 it already has.
