Yeah, or just keep some of those blue shop towels in your trunk at all times. That way, even if the gas station doesn't have paper towels, or has run out, you're still safe. There's going to be spillage, just wipe it off right away and there won't be a problem. Or, better yet, put the paper towel right below the lid before you take the pump out.

Just make sure you wash the rest of your car regularly as well, otherwise you'll end up with one little spot under the fuel lid that's cleaner than everywhere else.
