SS bumper cover installed on my 2LT/RS

***SS Bumper Cover conversion kit available from GMPartshouse http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123058

What it’s done it was a pain but if it was not for the two articles on Camaro5 on how to remove the bumper cover I would have paid the $200 and have the body shop do it. The install it took a total of 3 hours from start to finish (if I had a shop to do the work I think I could have cut the time down) I started just after 8pm last night and walked inside just after 11pm. My V6 bumper cover was hit a month ago by a piece of truck tire and put a scratch on the passenger side by the side marker the trucking companies insurance company sent me a check to repair the damage they figured $580 so I opted to buy a new bumper cover and have it painted. Here are some quick photos of the bumper cover installed (photos from my I phone better ones this weekend).

For anyone who is planning on doing this the V8 bumper bolts right up to car no issues you will need 4 extra parts from the parts department (cosmetic items only).

1. You will need to order the SS lower grille
2. SS mail slot grille
3. The rubber splash guard on the underside of the bumper cover the SS is 2” longer than the V6 one
4. When you open the hood on the edges of the bumper cover that are on top of the frame (where the GM Performance Parts division badge would be on the SS) is a plastic cover/strip that runs from one end of the bumper cover to the other you will need a new one of these to keep the bolts from rubbing into the plastic bumper cover (I will post pics)

You will need to remove the following items from the stock V6 bumper cover and move them over to the SS bumper cover.
1. Upper grille (they are held in with the stock push tabs)
2. Remove the middle plastic bumper support this attaches to the upper and lower grilles (keeps it in place)
3. Remove the side amber marker lights on each side of the bumper cover
4. Remove the fog lamp plastic liners
5. Remove the fog lamps
6. Remove the (6) 3 on each side mounting screw holders this is where the wheel liner screw into the bumper to secure it

The hardest part of taking off the bumper cover were the 3 bolts on each side of the fender The highest bolts on the sides that connect the bumper to the front quarter panels were a real pain because they are hard to get to if you have big hands forget about it. I would also suggest removing both front wheels to make it easier (you do not have to but it would make things go faster IMHO).

Good luck if you plan to do this I can say now that I have done it once I believe I can cut the time in half maybe 2/3’s for the time since I know what the heck I am doing and where all of the bolts are that need to be removed.
