Drop Spindles - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Ok, so I'm planning on lowering my SS about 2" and was planning on using an Eibach lowering kit when one is available. I've been reading alot of car mags lately and have seen ads for drop spindles that'll lower your car w/o affecting alignment. Now I'm new to the whole modding/customizing thing so can you guys explain to me how these work? From what I can tell they attach to the axle ends and the attachment to the wheel/brake system is raised resulting in a dropped stance. Are these only for older cars? They seem to be less labor/mod intensive that lowering kits so is this a better route to go? Can you do a staggered drop, say 2" in the front and 1" in the back? What are the best options for lowering besides this and spring kits?

Just do springs and struts or get adjustable coilovers.

were on the same boat, experience wise, i think. i would like to lower the front just a bit, and raise the back a bit more.
still checkin out the methods used

I think we're just going to have to see what the aftermarket produces for us. I'm sure someone will build what you want. We just won't have any options until some companies do some experimenting with the Camaro.

Eibach is some of the best stuff out there. Take a look at what people are doing to their Pontiac G8's, similar set up to the Camaro. I've seen some good info over at G8GT.com

drop spindles are harder to install but allow the use of stock suspension parts and keeps stock ride comfort.

If you are looking at getting the V8, why would you want to drop it more? I mean...doesn't the 1SS already come with a lowered ride height? Or, ....am I going crazy... and you want ot lower it more.....??

The FE3 (v8) suspension is lower but I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was only 1/2" lower than the FE2 (v6). I can't find the reference right now but I know it wasn't that much of a difference. Nothing like the 2" drop blackZbandit is talking about.

you ARE going to rub on a 2 inch drop with stock tires and wheels. i had a measuring tape at indy and no way you fit that in.

to answer the OP question about spindles....

this is a picture of a spindle:

the wheel bearing post that is being pointed to in the picture as well as the brake mounting points are raised on a drop spindle to effectively raise the mounting point of the wheel/brake or lower the body in relation to where the wheels are mounted.

Thanks alot... that close on the wheel wells huh? There's just a little more fender gap than I'm comfortable with and I really rather not mod the wheel wells. Guess I'll just go 1" downor stick with the stock stance.

I think you might want to go the coilover way. You can drop your camaro 2 inches with the coilovers and adjust it so that you can get a smooth ride for daily driving or rough ride for racing, and still have 2" drop. Can't do that with springs and drop spindles. I've lowered my vette 2.5 inches and rides better than stock.
