Please identify these parts that came with 2018 Camaro

Hello,

I am the proud owner of a 2018 Camaro 1LT RS. After leaving the dealership, I noticed a a bag of parts in the trunk. And, I could not identify these two plastic pieces that came with the car. I am getting conflicting information from the salesman and technicians at the dealership. One of the salesmen said they should have been attached before taking delivery. However, a mechanic at the dealership said they should only be attached if I were taking the car to a track. Apparently, they go over the rear suspension.

Can anyone clarify what they are and whether I should have them attached now?

I think they are called TK Aero Shield L and R Part. I only uploaded a picture of the right side. They also come with some plastic attachment bolts.

Thank you.

I can't speak with 100% certainty for your model as mine is a SS. However I believe those are rear suspension lower control arm covers that should have been installed as part of the dealer prep for delivery - mine were.

SMH - that the technician gave the answer he did!

Yes, lower control arm covers. Mine were in the trunk too.

If you have these installed at delivery, IMMEDIATELY HAVE THEM REMOVED!

As mentioned these are the lower control arm protection, and are intended ONLY for track use.

Having them installed during normal driving conditions may cause damage to the suspension due to road way hazards not normally found on a track.

Only have them installed when you intend to track the car and have them removed asap after the event.

I disagee. There are track only front air deflectors for front brake cooling for the SS that sometimes get installed by mistake at delivery. These rear lower control arm covers should be installed as part of the dealer delivery prep or at least that was the case for the 2016 model.

Can you explain what may be the result of leaving them in place after a track event? I’m curious to know what can possibly happen.

Not trying to argue at all, just would like to know of the possible consequences if these parts are left I place and what kind of damage may be incurred?

No, these are the rear lower control arm deflectors. The 2018 manual calls for the removal of the front ones for track duty and only for the SS, it says nothing about the rears and/or the LT trim.

I don't think these rear deflectors should be removed, in fact they should (have) be(en) installed for protection.

The picture is saying to REMOVE THE TIRE DEFLECTORS, which are completely different, then to INSTALL THE CONTROL ARM PROTECTORS, AFTER REMOVING THE FACTORY INSTALLED GUARDS, it also says in plain text BEFORE ANY TRACK EVENT.

My bad, you're right in that there is a separate SS front deflector part for the track that needs to be installed only for the track and removed afterwards. Thanks for the correction. (It is not a protector per se but an air deflector to help with cooling.)

This thread is about the rear control arm deflectors, however. Those should definitely be installed IMO.

You know honestly.......I'm not sure.

I guess someone else with a 1LT RS with some track experience will have to comment.

These rear covers have nothing to do with tracking the car. They should have been installed pre-delivery and only offer protection and help with debris build up on the rear arms.

It's a 2 minute job. You install them or have the dealer do it.

That's it.

It's OK. We all get confused from time to time.

As I suspected nothing has changed since 2016 for the PDI (predelivery inspection). Maybe its time to go put your rear control arm shields on and stop referring to them as track only items.

OP- nothing bad will happen if you don't put them on. But the intent from GM is that they go on the car before delivery and stay there.
