**Please Help - factory rally stripe question
I heard that factory rally stripes are installed under the clear coat, so it would not be possible to remove them. Is that accurate?
car in question: https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/1G1FH1R79J0170442 I'm not really interested in that car with the rally stripes unless I can remove them. |

Not true. They're vinyl. No experience removing them myself, but I've seen several threads where people have said they removed them or the vinyl hood wraps on the 1LEs without major difficulties.

Thanks, I even called Chevrolet and they said they had no idea other than they are made from PVC material.

The vinyl is applied to the cars in a separate area at the Lansing facility well after they're painted and fully assembled.

I had the single center stripe on my 2016 2SS and on my 2021 ZL1 and they're both very obviously sitting on top of the clearcoat.

Should be no problem to remove. I had a 97 30th Anniversary, white with orange stripes, after a few years the stripes started to peel. So yours can probably be easily removed. It was covered under warranty. The darn dealership painted them on the car instead of doing it the right way.. Talk about being pissed off.

Mine were dealer installed after the car arrived.

Stripes are super easy to remove, just go buy a $20 heat gun from the hardware store first. Apply heat to the corner you wanna start at on the lowest power setting about 6 or more inches from the stripe and start slowing peeling it at an angle, make sure to keep moving the heat gun back and forth to keep the vinyl from getting too hot otherwise it will start tearing apart. Having a second set of hands also helps (one to use the gun, the other peeling)
Make sure to either buff and wax, or preferably ceramic coat after the stripe is gone though, as there will be no protective coating where the stripe previously was and it can get damaged by sun weather etc over time if nothing is applied. |

Yeah the stripes are usually an option so they are not added to the car in the build

That car is almost a 2018 twin of my '16. I love my silver rallys but mine are considerably narrower, and IMHO much more attractive than the huge stripes on the '18. I wonder if the strip configuration changed or if they offer more than one stripes configuration? Be that as it may, I replaced the stripes on my deck lid in order to repair some hail damage repaired. They are a piece of cake to remove

that brings up a good point, if you are waxing or doing any kind of paint correction you should cover the edges with tape so you don't peel them up or get product underneath.
