Flat tire gear in trunk
You guys that have non run flat tires. What do you keep in your trunk for a flat tire? Small air comp, tire slime, patch kit, etc.

I have the factory air pump which the dealer gave me. My car was supposed to come with run flats but came with aftermarket rims and Nitto non run flat tires so i asked them for the factory air pump. I also keep a plug kit in the car but thinking about it I am not sure if the car has a lug wrench or jack to even change a tire. I have the air pump at least if a tire is low on air.

Has worked fine for me. Modern tires are very strong and the chances of getting a blowout type failure are very slim, if that were to happen, your run-flat wouldn't help you at all. While you may not be able to repair every little hole, the rubber is usually gummy enough inside to not leak super fast and sealant is usually more than enough for a temp repair to get to a shop. The type of repair that can not be held by sealant is usually the kind that run-flats won't help with anyway, and if you actually do use your run flats to get to a shop, they often make you replace them anyway, as running on the run-flat destroys the sidewall. If you are doing long trips with very little population, maybe they are a better bet, but IME they are more for increasing the revenue of tire companies and dealers, in addition to making them feel a little better about getting rid of the spare, which is something I haven't used in like 20 years. I'm sure someone will come up and tell us how important it is to have a spare and how they use it every week, but IME it's overkill for 99% of us. Ride quality and handling are still significantly poor with run-flats. |

I copied this with some modifications. From amazon: Lux pro TAC 600 flashlight Slime 1034-A plug kit (new kit I'm keeping sealed so it stays fresh) Viair 88P compressor (actual 12V battery connections, not lighter socket low current crap) Torin 1.5 ton scissor jack Cartman telescoping lug wrench with 21/22 mm socket From ZL1 add-ons: Magpad with slotted puck Miscellaneous: Needle nose pliers (for pulling out screw or nail which is often the culprit) Single edged blades (for trimming plug) Some paper towels This all goes in a Husky 18" tool bag from Home Depot which will not slide around in the trunk and is a very sturdy bag. I also like that it's red; better to catch a driver's eye when I'm working on the side of the road. I considered some soapy water, but I figure any leak I can't find without bubbles will be small enough that I can refill the tire with enough air to get me home. |

I have the 5th Gen pump and slime kit, 1/2-inch breaker with correct socket. Still need a few things.
Considering just getting something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-2017-C....c100677.m4598 |

Air compressor and a plug kit winch includes some of the same stuff listed above.

I have one of the Modern Spare tires/ jacks in the trunk. Along with a compressor and a fix a flat kit. Rural MT is a bit different than life for most of the rest of You. We have lots of areas with ZERO cell service. So one must be self sufficient.
