VIDEO: Removal of Tailight Bezels

So I decided I really liked the cleaner look of the tailights with the chrome bezels removed.

Hylton and 2SSRS posted some pictures of the results, but I figured this would be helpful.

Thanks.

Nice work on the video.
This should work 100% of the time, but if it doesn't here is option B.
Removing the rear bumper (two man job) was very simple. DC the tail light pig tail, six torx screws and two 7mm bolts. Pull the sides of the bumper out, then pull strait back. I didn't remove the wheels and took no longer then 5 min and about 5 to go back on.
Plastic rivets tool also help a ton and doesn't cost much. No marring (see pic).

To be completely up front... I did accidentally break off one of the tabs on the first bezel I tried to remove so go slow... The top "tabs" are the easiest, the side tabs (with a gentle nudge from a screwdriver) were pretty easy too; but the bottom tabs were a real bear.

I wear XL gloves, so others will have an easier time and anyone with really big hands will probably have to remove the entire rear bumper like GrnMchin suggests...

Great video. I did mine earlier today without seeing it Oh well, I managed to get them off off without breaking any clips which is good in case I ever decide to reinstall them. A big thank you to all of you that have posted pictures and instructions on how to do this! Including Hylton, Camero, Capstone, and A Black Camero.

Seriously people, its really not that involved. I had mine off in about 10 minutes. You dont have to remove the bumber or even pull it out or anything. As long as you get the top two tabs out first, the other tabs come out pretty easy. All you have to do is use a small flat head screw driver and stick it between the tail light and the chrome ring in slowly pry the bezel away from the light. I loved the way it looked on Hyltons car and decided to do it myself, but once I got them off I didnt like the way it looked unfinished up close with the big gap and being able to see the slots that the tabs go into so I painted mine satin black to match the hockey and hood stripes. I LOVE the way it looks now. Here is a pic of mine...

The black bezels look very good. great in fact. I definitely considered painting mine too. I even bought the paint already... just ran out of time before I had to be at my photo-shoot with SicSix6 and FlaminBird. .:shameless plug:. I'm sure they will have some pics up soon enough. I'm still on the fence though... I'll have to think about it some more.

P.S. Repeated attempts to get good access to the lower tabs on the inner tailights with my hands simply didn't work until I nudged outward slightly the upper lip of the bumper in order to get a better angle on the bottom tab. Your results may vary, but people with larger hands may have to resort to my solution... hopefully not, but I was trying really hard to not snap off a second tab on the same bezel. There's definitely no way to actually see what's going on with the bottom tabs, you have to feel your way through it or have xray vision.

Nice Job...Great Video. I think the red looks way better without the chrome.

just spent more than an hour, finally removed all the taillight bezels. was being very careful, didn't break any clips.

OMG ! now my fingers are numb as hell.

I love the look without the chrome bezels. after the bezels are removed, there is a gap that you can see the grey plastic housing from certain angle.. think I will try to put some black vinyl to cover it up in the next few days.

Capstone, thanks for the tips and video.
