Having a quick look at the SmoothBoost website, all I can see is that it's electronically controlling the (previously vacuum operated) bypass. As we know the standard vacuum bypass is operating only at lowish revs (say up to 2000 rpm).

So to 'dial down boost' is the Smooth Boost now partially opening the bypass across the whole rev range? Doesn't that reduce volume in bypass rather than boost pressure? And what does Whipple think of this? Any issues for S/C operation/durability?
Not entirely true. Your vacuum bypass works anytime the engine load is low, not RPM based. You’re really overthinking this. I've been using it for 3 years now and it works mint. All the way down on the boost knob is maybe 10% boost and it just scales up from there.

Why would it affect durability…? It’s literally the same bypass…just opened electronically, not by vacuum.

Toyo RR and the latest/greatest Toyo R will be about the best you can do on the street but you will sacrifice tread pattern to do it. I'm going to try the Toyo RR out in a 315/30/20 when they arrive at the end of this week. I run a 345/35/18 Toyo RR on my C7Z and it does really well IMO.

Yeah the Toyo is a proven great tire but also famously LOUD which is 1 thing I wanted to stay away from.

It seems the 555R2 will tick most of the boxes. Tire shop informed me that tires arrived early but too busy at work. May install Friday or Saturday by latest.

Looking forward to seeing your results with the 555R2. If they really do hook well then I’d go that route next time instead of the R888R.

The Toyo RR is very quiet. The R888R is the one that roars.

Oh ok, yeah Toyo has that as a road race tire not a drag radial... it may work but normally those tires take a bit longer to warm up, but also not what I want for my daily tire.

Anywho, was able to get to the tire shop early before work and get them installed. Traffic is just too stupid in Miami to so some pulls, i'll see if I can take her out for a spin tonight and see what's up with the tire.

Initial impressions... in 95* tires are super quiet, was only able to drive up to 50mph due to morning rush hour. Currently at 35PSI and i dont feel like its picking up every rock... for better or worse... compound does feel stickey... almost like my MT R's but it should as its supposedly the dame "R2 compound"
Love the fact that they come in 305/30/20... so you need to look twice to really notice its "on a tire".

you might lower the pressure to 25-26 for driving on the street, the centers wear out quickly if pressures are high.

Will definitely lower it a bit. Thats just how the shop gave them to me. I was under the impression that over inflated makes tires last longer. Or maybe thats for fuel savings.

Over inflating will wear the middle of the tire out like already mentioned, ride worse and hook worse but it may increase fuel mileage.

Alright so did a few testings at 35PSI... 3rd gear 60MPH hit the car hooked like a dream
Tried to do a 40MPH hit in 2nd gear and the car definitely didn't like that, nannies were flashing like crazy.

Next, will air down to 23psi and Re-test based on how aggressive the 40 was, I don't expect much difference even at 23psi but we will see.

Definitely an improvement over the Michelin 4S's before at 80 I wasn't able to hit it. Glad to have more confidence driving now.

Ohhhh and turning, as expected NOT as good but useful, just can't go crazy as you could on a R888 or the Michelins but understandable as this is considered a drag tire.

23 psi seems like a pretty crazy drop for the street…maybe try 30 psi next and see how that feels?

23 makes a difference in traction with the 555r2. My best no prep 0-60 is 3.0 (no roll out) at 23psi. Up at 28psi, 3.3 is the best I can get. And they hook better from a second gear roll too. I do usually drive with them at 28psi.

Yeah, good point, I will drop to 23 if I find myself crossing the border over to mexico (and not on the drag pack) ... but will try at 30 as this is where I plan on driving it daily.

Yeah, based on one of your posts is where I'm getting the 23psi target... so thanks King as usual always providing knowledge.

Ohhh and by the way... the results posted before are NO burnouts or anything extra to get heat in them... just a hot day in Florida and a 6-8min drive on to the highway before ripping it.
They have about 100 miles in now (getting the new tire grease out) so they should perform a bit better.

Overall, happy with them.
