I averaged 26.7 mpg on the drive to C5Fest. All highway averaging 75-80 mph.

Yeah, if I was 17 and my daddy bought me a Camaro, I'd ride it hard too!

JUST KIDDING - You are probably one of those genious kids making a million dollars a year in his tech business. I'll probably be working for You one day so I can pay off my own Camaro. I need a better job!

My driving always changes so my numbers are different. But I always reset it when I fill up. I usually get about 23mpg. Best I got was a little over 24 MPG when I was doing almost exclusively highway driving. The problem is "city" driving. I live in the suburbs and driving through them, being very mellow with low RPMs, it sucks the MPG down to like 13mpg. If I was driving in an actual city, can't imagine how bad it would be. The city number is more misleading than the highway. If you keep it to 65, you can probably get right close to 26mpg or so. But on tanks where I don't get on the highway at all, I've had as bad as 16mpg. The city mpg has me the most disappointed.

I went from 20.5 to 22.5 MPG when switching from normal to super last month, although that could be because the average temperature went from -15 celsius this winter to 10-15 celsius in March.

I was wondering if a CAI would help the mileage in a significative way?

Doesn't cold air make your vehicle run MORE efficiently, not less? More dense air means more oxygen?

With an average speed that low, that explains why your MPG is so bad. Even I have an average speed of 25mph, and I don't do much highway driving usually.

I took a measure of a two week span on my car. I drive 88 miles a day to work and back for 9 days, plus about 20 for various stuff for kids and wife. Mixed driving about 4/5 of it is hwy miles and the "city" miles are actually small towns along the way with a speed zone and a red light or two.

avg speed 41.6mph
avg per gal. 25.2 by car and 25.14 by my calc
total miles 816 miles

I ran Shell 93 octane w/10% Ethanol, since i work at one of their refineries i might as well invest in myself. I used automatic, not tapshift, and yes i did show my butt a few times to some trucks that would try to out run me to the lane cut off. I also use cruise control to keep from looking down and seeing the speedo at 80 or 90.

I did a short check last night while we were in BR and was getting 15mph over a 28 mile trip while looking for baseball stuff for my 7yr old.

My city driving in this car is about the mpg i was getting out of my truck on the hwy. So i'm rather pleased at my numbers.

Usually , yes, but I'm pretty sure intense cold (5 to -10 F) have the reverse effect. That being said, I'm no expert!

More dense air, more oxygen, so you can inject more fuel and make more power. That's more power, not more fuel economy.

Here is a chart i have been updating about my MPG. Curious to see as i drive along this summer.
Sopme people might wonder why your calculated MPG and the car MPG are slightly different.
To answer that your car takes a calculation from the actual useage of the gasoline. pules width and frequency of the injectors and divides it over the distance since last reset.. The calculated MPG could be slightly different from variations in the pump fuel calibration, and the actual cutoff setting of the pump.. There is no way to ever get the exact same amount of gas in every time, it could be close if you used the same pump every time and let it stop at the cutoff and not squeese any more ito the tank.

More info:
Outside temp. was 39 degrees. This past weekend I changed the oil to Mobil 1 and added the MRT 2.0 exhaust. Camaro has 900 miles.

Test results:

25 miles traveled

70 MPH

28 MPG

To say the least I am with those kind of numbers for my into work commute MPG. To have this kind of fun factor car and those numbers is a bonus in my book.

Update to this test. I installed the INJEN system last night. (4/22/2010)

http://www.autoanything.com/air-intakes/61A2810A0A0.aspx

Same exact test conditions. Temp. was the same, mileage driven was the same, speed was the same.

MPG improved to 29. Scientific ?? Maybe not. But everything was the same for me and my MPG went up 1 after the INJEN install. I couldn't be any happier.

Temp could have been the same but the barometric pressure and humidity could have been different, that can change it also... Not that it did, but it is possible...

True enough, but both mornings were cold and clear.....not sure how much humidty or BP change there really was......like I said not scientific and this was the only time I was going to do these tests, otherwise I will set the cruise on my drive in and just enjoy the music and the ride.
