This talk is taking away from the question at hand. What time dose it run. I don't care if the ford was faster or not. This a great forum but I don't get why mustang owners keep thinking they can build up the stange on a Camaro site. How would it work if I went on a ford site and explained how the Camaro is an upgrade?I like the fact that the zl1 rocks and would just like to see what the ford can do.

I didn't read where the op ask that question. In fact, he said there was no point in talking about it yet because they were running in the rain.

Tired of TIRES?
Quote:
All other things being equal, which of course they never are, what ultimately transmits power to the road (and HOW) are the tires. Everyone agree with that? Hope so... Weight-to-Power: ZL1 = 7.10 lb/hp (?); 305/35-20 = 23.0" total tread (as per GY) Z06 = 6.33 lb/hp; 325/30-19 = 23.1" total tread (Optional 335/25-30s = 25.0") ZR1 = 5.26 lb/hp; 335/25-20 = 25.0" total tread Forget Manufacturer, and weight distribution, and tread patterns, and UTQG for a moment... GT500 = 5.77 lb/hp; 285/35-20 = 21.3" total tread (10.8 + 10.5, as per GY) Under-tired? Let's compare it to its closest Weight-to-Power competitor, shall we? 2010 Viper non-ACR = 5.76; 345/30-19 = 26.4" total tread NO ELECTRONICS! Draw your own conclusions... Now, I'm gonna push back the Barcalounger, put my feet up, grab a tasty beverage, listen to some Paul Hardcastle (I recommend "Serene"), and wait for something "encouraging" from Dearborn/'Ring/VIR/Milan... This week, the ZL1 is a roadcourse car vs the GT500. Last week, it was a 1/4 miler. Damn, I see the humiliation coming up soon.

2013 Mustang GT
I have had my Camaro exactly one month plus a week. I have had some issues that were caused by the dealer's cleaning crew, as well as some warranty issues that appear to be inherent problems with the Camaro. All this having been said, I am scheduling an appointment to get 3 of the 'bee stripes replaced, passenger door adjusted, and getting the front bumper repainted. This will be its third trip to the dealer to correct cosmetic problems.
After driving this car a little over 1600 miles, given the problems I've had, it's been the worst "new car" experience I ever gone through. The car feels heavy to me, feels more like it's driving me than I'm driving it. So, since I haven't driven a new Mustang since 2005, I stopped at my old place of business and took a 2013 Mustang GT out for a ride. The car feels lighter and quicker. It shifts better. The steering is solid and has better road feel than my Camaro. They run P-Zeros on these cars too, so the tires aren't a factor, but the Mustang feels more agile on the hairpins. The interior seems to be of better quality than my Camaro. In another post I'd previously stated that I thought my Camaro felt "delicate". The Mustang, on the contrary, feels like I could beat the living crap out of it and it would come back for more. My Camaro has more visual appeal. It turns more heads than a Mustang would, unless I were to buy a Boss or GT500. But I'm not a "car show" guy. I'm a drag racer, and I like taking things up to 140 MPH when I feel like it. Not that the Camaro doesn't have the same ability, but the Mustang has a 3.73:1 ratio, and a solid axle that I can launch hard without fear of damage. The Boss comes with Trackey, which basically gives you factory electric exhaust cutouts, and programmable cam timing. Push-button lumpy cam on demand. Wow. I'm still on the fence at this point, but shame on me for buying the Camaro without driving the Mustang first. The SS and GT are equal in price, but after road testing the GT, I left thinking that the Mustang has more bang for the buck. If I can make the numbers work, I just might make the jump. Tough call. Just sharing my thoughts and impressions, so please keep the flames low.

That's a damn good question. I do like the attention that it draws. Honestly, I think I forgot how much I like to drive them hard. Don't misunderstand though, I enjoy my Camaro a lot. I'd just like to see some amazing time slips with few mods. The Mustang can do that, the Camaro requires a bit more effort (money). I'm not a guy that can afford to drop $1500 on a whim to make my car faster. But I would if I could.

Nothing wrong with having a change of heart. There is nothing wrong with either car. If you are interested in 1/4 mile times I'd suggest grabbing a 5.0 automatic car. I know there are some fantastic deals out there on the leftover 12 models. For me while I am impressed with the 5.0 prowness at the strip and ease of modification, it does nothing for me visually. I've had similar thoughts with a 392 Challenger, if I could get the numbers to work I would be driving one.

I suppose I'm interested to know if anyone else has had a similar impression about the Mustang, or any other hi-po car on the market. Nothing more, nothing less.

I believe that's why I dismissed the Mustang in the first place. The Camaro is sexier. I like flash, but I lean more towards performance when I spend my money.

Having the same thoughts there buddy after doing a budget and realizing I can't afford a ZL1 for at least a few more years. There is no beating the Camaro when it comes to looks, but the 5.0 sure is tempting for us on a budget. So yeah, I'm thinking about jumping ship too.

I traded a later model Mustang Bullitt for my Camaro just before the 5.0 came out. Reading all the hype the 5.0 was making, I had second thoughts especially since my new Camaro wasn't performing to the degree I thought it would...I was experiencing remorse. Since trading wasn't an option, I decided to add some mods to see if I could match the 5.0s performance. A couple grand later, my Camaro was performing at C6 Corvette levels and I had never been beaten by a 5.0 Mustang and many of those I did run were equally modded. I bought an LS3 since then and am working on it to see what it would do and a couple weeks ago, I ran a 3:73 equipped 5.0 with exactly the same mods as my LS3 and beat him twice. Imagine if you had traded for a Mustang and that had been you!
