Early 90's Honda's make pretty decent beaters. My last beater I had when I lived in the land of the ice and snow was a 1993 Civic. I paid $2100 and spent $850 on getting a timing belt, water pump, new tires, and a tune up. I drove it for 4 yrs after that (50K
+ miles) with nothing more than just doing oil changes. Great little beater.
