I have two...a Valentine 1 (my cars) and a passport 9500 (wife's car). I go NOWHERE without my Valentine 1. It is hands down the absolute best $400 I've EVER spent. Especially when you consider a typical speeding ticket + court costs + insurance rate increase will easily cost $400 over the longterm.

I'm 40 yrs old and I don't drive recklessly (although I typically do 9-12mph over depending where I'm at). Having the V1 is just peace of mind for me. I like knowing where the bogey's are hiding...even if I'm only doing 5 over, I can adjust as needed. My V1 has made true believers out of friends/passengers that are shocked at how much of an advanced notice it gives.

Is a quality detector guaranteed protection? Of course not...that's what common sense and situational awareness is for. But they sure as hell don't hurt either.

I wouldn't waste your money on any of the el-cheapo $99-150 dollar devices. They're prone to constant falsing, which will annoy and de-sensitize you to an actual alert...if you want REAL protection...splurge for the BEL STi, Valentine 1 or Escort 9500.

If the officer has his RADAR in constant on, a good detector may help. But if he is using the hold function it is not sending out a signal until he releases the hold.(instant on mode) He then has your speed in a second or less.
With laser, I have gotten readings at 2800+ feet well under a second.

I live in New Jersey and in 1996 The New Jersey Superior Court ruled that laser guns may not target vehicles past 1,000 feet due to the gun's one millididadian beam divergence of 36" at that distance. Anything further than 1,000 the laser gun might incorrectly target an adjacent vehicle.

I think the only ones that don't run around with their radars on constantly here are the State Patrol Officers, everywhere else, they drive around with them on lol. So I'll have a random KA alert every once in a while and not even see a cop around lol.

...Surprised no one's coming up with a stealth material/design like the aircraft that voids radar detection...lol...(The fronts of the car don't look too far from that now)...lol

My dad has a Valentine 1 and it's amazing, it works really well! I always use it when I drive his car and sometimes in mine and it does a great job of separating the signals and everything! Thing is a life saver! It's really worth the $400. I don't get why people on here are freaking out about $1000 radars... I havent even seen any selling for that much! Haha But I'm going to buy one soon.

Beltronics is what I have. However, someone said drive the speed limit. Sage advice. However, I go through alot of hodunk towns 35mph, then 55mph, then 40 the 50 same stretch a road etc....., whatever, to each is his own. Laser is deadly venom. I wouldn't waste large coin on a RD specifically for that reason. Yer screwed whether you spend 100 or 1000.

Escort 8500 X50 here. Basically if you get hit with a LASER while speeding, you might as well pull over. Even the best radar detector wont let you know in time. If Im going 10-15 over the limit and get a hit on the detector, it allows me to slow down a bit.
