Meanwhile, at the insurance agent's office...Of course, once again probably nothing to see here, just wait, everything will be ok....it's no problem...lol

Been brought up several times. Like here's a post back in march with an article saying the same thing. https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showp...&postcount=604

Yes, thank you. But seeing as it is from yesterday and in the oft-cited in this forum GM Authority link, perhaps it may gain some more interest. It's probably an issue that will only get worse.

Actually this is likely to be a big problem, at least for a little while. Insurance companies are quick to total an EV that’s been involved in an accident. Even if it has damage similar to damage that would be repaired on an ICE vehicle. That drives up the price of insuring EVs. The assumption seems to be that repairing the EV, even if there is no damage to the battery, costs more than just totaling it.

As bad as it was/is with ICE vehicles, this seems considerably worse. Is there no system or plan to repair EVs at all? Are insurance companies flying blind an unaware of repair costs, or that EVs are unrepairable?

Damage to a battery is one thing that is new territory, but other damage seems to indicate that EV designs are unrepairable at all and to a far greater degree than ICE vehicles. Perhaps being totaled is due to no mechanism in place with parts and know-how to effectively repair even existing.

P.S. Curious as to the total loss value. Any depreciation, or any Blue Book? Probably not much resale history to go by to aid in determining total loss value.

^This will ultimately drive up the cost of insurance for all motorists. I am not sure whether this was considered in the planning of EVs.

I didn't read the whole thing, but I did get this far -

But the sprawling facility, bordered on one side by forest and on the other by blue seas, faces a major challenge: what to do with the roughly 4 million metric tons of toxic waste produced every year - enough, approximately, to fill 1,667 Olympic-size swimming pools.

In 2020, the companies behind the project told the government they had a solution: They would pump the waste into the ocean. They ultimately backtracked in the face of public pressure. But it's not clear that the on-land storage alternative they've offered instead is significantly safer.

Pump it into the ocean... brilliant!

Then they say they aren't going to do it but who wants to bet against them eventually doing it anyway.

Four million metric tons (that's 8.8 billion pounds for U.S. readers) of toxic waste per year... from just this one plant... is apparently a small price to pay for our forced march to electrification. But it's in Indonesia so who cares as long as the air quality in California and New York improves... even if only by a statistically insignificant amount.

The hypocrisy and lies surrounding this "save the planet" movement are truly mind boggling.

China wins again.

Who could they be referring to here?
"Although car manufacturers in other countries spend big on alluring ads hyping an “inevitable” electric vehicle future, the Chinese spend on battery research. The Times story concludes by noting that it’s “next to impossible" for any other country to become self-reliant in the battery supply chain."

Our leadership needs to ensure we diversify propulsion even if it comes at an additional expense.

According to what I've seen, the areas with the resources for the minerals used mostly in today's batteries are either already owned by China or China is acquiring them.

So how does that make everyone feel? China will be the biggest winner by far when we invest in electric vehicles. Sure gives me a warm fuzzy.

We've got to find other means to get what we need instead of relying on China.

Yes, and I see a place for EVs here, i'm not that guy and i'll own one likely within the next year. However, it's not smart to let China run this deal while putting all our eggs in one basket to lower the earth temp a degree in 200 years time.

It's not as though so many haven't been calling for a halt to forced EVs. Those type problems aren't getting fixed. It's just there's no leadership, with regard for liberty & real influence.
