I've been contemplating a gear set and the pro shop that did my header and exhaust install (pics and results to come) said flat out "I don't use Richmond Gears". They pointed to poor quality as the main reason. So, I'll go elsewhere for my set (if it ever makes it that far).

We have had two Richmond 4.10 gear failures, out of many installs.

We sent the gears back to Richmond for Rockwell hardness testing. We thought they might be to hard/ or brittle. Richmond said both gears were within specs.

First time I've ever heard someone say that about Richmond. There will be an alternative out soon for you guys that are gun shy though.

I wouldn't be too worried.
I was also thinking about putting 4.10s in my L99 for the "holy shit" feeling. Think it would be too much?

4.10s are too much. The auto is geared lower than the manual so 3.73 is plenty.

Perfect for your L99!

Check out my Facebook page, click on CraigSS. We tuned him to over 600HP to the tire. He DRIVEs the Camaro! (ie from Cincinnati to Gatlinburg, Somerset, Indy, Daily Driver etc etc)

A question for the experts out there. Lets say that launch and 60ft time was identical, what would the improvement be time wise in the 1/4 mile going from 3.45's to 4.10's?

I like the way you think, but pairing 4.10s with the auto increases cruising RPM at 70MPH by approximately 25%. If all you use your car for is racing then I say go for it, but for a lot of people that is unacceptable. The 3.73s are the way to go for most auto owners with an equivalent gain of 61 rear wheel lb-ft of torque at a cost of only 250 RPM at 70 MPH.

Another set of failed 4.10 Richmond gears

Another set of failed 4.10 Richmond gears.

At this point it seems that the gear sets are NOT faulty. More info soon.
