Yea, problem is I may have to take a 1,000 dollar hit for the service. The dealership near me does offer a decent service department which would be huge and the price of a serious issue for a car I love could easily total well over 1,000...I am just going to shop around and bring in a bunch of offers for comparison and online prices.

Agreed. I going to end up buying local, just remove the trade-in screw job, and the financing screw job at the dealer.

I was eligible for 0% GMAC financining on 2008 Corvettes and 9% on my 2009 model. Ed Morse greased me at 15.9%! Glad I gave that one back.

I bought a new Mazda6 for my son for cash, and it was a simple pleasure to only negotiate the selling price, not trade-in value, or financing rates.

Hey CamaroScotty,

I heard that Franchised Chevrolet dealers can not sell over MSRP. Is this true and if so, why? Just trying to get some knowledge to leverage at the dealership if necessary.

Thanks
Jeremy

My scores are around 645. I have 60% available credit in use, which needs to get below 35% to boost my scores.

0% was a spiff to move the now year-old 2008 models. Rumor says it comes back tomorrow, Oct. 1st.

GMAC has credit tiers:

s - superman credit

a

b

c This is the final tier eligible for promo rates like 0%

d 15% apr and up

e ditto

I am tier C. I did not know all this when they were screwing me. I thought I could just refinance.

He'll have more to add, I'm sure. But it's actually the opposite; due to franchise laws, dealers can charge as much as they want for a vehicle -- but GM cannot intervene or reprimand them. They can't decide what the dealers have to sell the car for. Hence the "suggested" in Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

The SMART car is sold out currently. Roger Penske runs the US importation and they have told their dealers to not charge more than MSRP or they face losing their franchise.

In Ontario our consumer laws prevent dealers from selling over MSRP.

Finnegan Chevrolet in Rosenberg,TX is charging $10,000 over MSRP and requires a $1000 deposit to preorder. I'm still waiting to hear from 2 other local dealers. One hasn't replied yet and the other won't say what they are going to sell them for until Oct. 13th.

Guess I'll take them off my list to contact then.

I talked with Larry Davis (internet sales) at Davis Chevrolet (610 south loop near Reliant) this morning and he seemed to think they would be selling for MSRP initially (first 3-4 cars) and once they started getting 5 or more sitting on the lot, they would be willing to deal a little on the price. You may want to check with them.

UGH

These dealerships are making me furious. I tried calling a new dealership today in Phoenix...

I asked about the order placement day on Oct. 13. They told me, you cannot put your name down on Oct. 13th. That's just a day to find out about pricing and allocations. And they don't plan on taking orders until December.

I also asked about the military discount and they said they probably wouldn't offer it for the Camaro. I told him how it's GM's discount and they even show advertisements in military papers showing the GM military discount with a picture of the camaro. They said it's up to the manager to accept the discount.

I also asked if they are MSRP or lower, and he beat around the bush basically saying no.

What is with these people? Where are all of these good dealerships and salesmen I hear about on these forums? Because I cannot find one in AZ!

I feel you, bro. I've been looking around Az. for about a month now. I thought I had an "in" with the owner of a dealership. He basically told me, "no can do." I think it's this state....Greed!

Dealer Name: David Stanley Chevrolet
Dealer location: 614 Southwest 74th
Oklahoma City, OK 73139
Dealer phone number: 888-326-2047
Dealer website: http://www.davidstanleychevrolet.com/

This is the e-mail I received:

James,

Unfortunately, Actual Market Value is determined by supply and demand. There is not enough of a supply of the new Camaro's to meet the demand, therefore they will be scarce. So the AMV of the Camaro will be higher than MSRP. It is possible that in the 2011 model year they will go for MSRP. If you change your mind, please let me know.

Thanks,
