Because I'm sure that even if they replaced the plastic rod under warranty, it would do the same thing eventually.
I think you can straighten the rod back out.

If you tug on it gently, it straightens out.

disable top security screen

Here is a picture that may help you find this connector - it is on the left side as you look into the trunk - right behind the black plastic slot the curtain hooks into, All it takes is for the curtain to unlatch while top is down and you cannot get into your trunk or put the top up - what a sucky feature - better disabled. Anyone delete these parts that would be willing to sell it to me? I bought used and one of the side clips is missing and i think most of the parts are just sitting in the trunk. Would like to just have it back to stock. Let me know!

I was starting to get a small tear in the netting so I sewed(that's right, I can even backstitch) the net aaround the rod ALL THE WAY from one side to another. It seems GM, in trying to save money, just glued the net to the rod. Now I know it's solid. Also, this is just my opinion, but I would ALWAYS have that net in it's bracket no matter what. I don't want to forgot and overload the trunk and do MAJOR damage. We picked converibles, so we had to give up space and that's fine with me. I have a few small plastic crates I bought from Walmart to hold my lift pads and such for tire changing(I have the spare kit) and just to make sure, I keep he tonneau cover UNDER the net to protect that expensive(I have no idea why) piece of plastic. Good luck to all my vert brothers and sisters.

Ha. I just bought a 2013 zl1 vert and went through the Ed’s t same thing the op did. Except I didn’t know that net had to be pulled out. And didn’t know the top had to be latched fur trunk to work until I read this. I thought it had electric gremlins. . My car didn’t come with a manual.

Just wanted to add my thanks. My top suddenly died with that goofy "clear top storage area" message. The sensor somehow managed to fall off behind the side panel so I just decided to disconnect/delete it. Found this post Googling. Saved my a$$ and money as I was one step from a ride to the stealership.
