Now that I've been using it a little bit. I have to admit it's kind of nice. It is difficult to tell where the rear bumper is from inside the car. I do wish it was optional instead of forced. Even though I kind of like it, I still don't think I would have spent the extra money. Since it was forced on me and I have it, I do wish it had the lights. We have them on our 2002 Chevy Venture and it's easier to know when you need to stop by following the lights instead of trying to figure out if the beeps have gotten as close together or as fast as they're going to get. When you see the 3rd light on the Venture, you know it's time to stop backing up for sure. I would prefer lights only and no beeps.

Just nit picking here. Certainly not my intention to bash the Camaro because I really love this car. It's the best I've ever owned!

How much does the backup assist raise the price? I knew that they were going to be included but thought that it was included in the RS package or something.

Not to mention the silly people who like to walk behind ur car when backing out of a parking space!!

It added $295.00 when it was added to the Convenience and Connectivity Package on my 1LT. I was quoted $465 for the C&C when I ordered in May, but the window sticker came in at $760.00. Not sure about other models and packages and how it gets included or priced.

I would have liked having it, but mine doesn't, but not having the lights WOULD BE A PAIN. if you had the lights, all you would have to do is be looking in your rear view mirror and know......I use this feature all the time in my caddy, works like a champ.

Must have been an safety insurance issue for GM to make this mandatory. They wouldn't add it just cause........

It's a first print edition. In that first print edition, the Ultrasonic Parking Assist is supposed to have a three light indicator system on the rear package tray near the 3rd brake light. My car doesn't have the three lights. I can see a knock out where they would go, but they're definitely not there.

I checked the owner's manual that came with my car when I took delivery on 10-13. It's a second print edition. In the second print edition, the info about the three lights is deleted.

Did anybody's come with the three lights on the package tray? Has anyone heard about this? I couldn't find anything using the search - just lots of talk about who did or didn't want the assist feature. Thanks.
If I recall correctly, GM now uses only the audible chimes to indicate proximity. That change was very recent so it would not surprise me if they started with the lights and changed as a result of this decision.

Thanks for the response Number 3. When thinking about it, it makes sense that when you're backing up, you should still look where you're going instead of looking at some lights. You can listen to the audio and still watch where you're going.

How loud are the beeps? The reason I ask is that my wife is hearing impaired in certain auditory ranges.

The beeps are about the same volume and frequency as the seat belt reminder.

This is because starting next year, it is federally mandated that all new passenger vehicles sold in the US must have some form of rear parking assist.
