Question Help Please! Sub Amp Install.

Hello all. I must confess, I'm not putting an amp/sub in my Camaro, that's already done and working fine. I am attempting to install one in a friend's 2012 Mustang V6 though, and I have a couple of questions I'm sure the knowledgeable people here can answer with certainty.

He's using 2 JBL 10" subs rated at 1000W peak, and a 1000W peak/500RMS cheap amp. Just trying to get the subs up and running for now, with a better amp coming in the future. The hard part is done. We bought a Kicker amp install kit, 4 gauge power and ground wires. Ran the power wire through the firewall and back to the trunk, and tied the remote wire into the radio fuse. We used a pre-existing bolt into the metal bottom of the trunk as a ground. The amp is tied into the rear speakers with an LOC.

The first time we turned the battery power on the radio fuse blew. And the amp smelled as though it was cooking. We stopped there for the night so I could do some homework on what might have gone wrong.

My question is, is the 4 gauge kit too much for this cheap amp? We plan on running the remote wire directly into the radio remote wire when he comes back over. Also got some new connectors to use for the amp. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Sounds like the remote wire shorted out somewhere. And the 4ga amp kit isnt too big for the amp, thats not possible.

That's good to know. Hopefully the new connectors I got work out. And hardwiring the remote wire should eliminate the possibility to short, though I plan on making sure there aren't any bare wires on any connections. Are shrink wraps a good idea for the ends?
