Hurst Shifter

Installed a Hurst shifter it is harder then it looks but I was using jack stands and my arms and hands are almost to big so it was a little difficult to reach up and install the little screws they give you and trying to re install the dust boot sucks I would recommend using a hoist if you have access to one, but works wonderful and looks awesome.

I had the Hurst shifter installed for a few years. just watch out for it loosening up after a while.

Eh, did it myself on ramps no problem. Did you lower the transmission at all?

Hoist???

Probably mean a lift

This is on my to-do list this spring. I need the Hurst upgraded bushings though.

No trouble as long as you don't back them out too far. The 1/2" made a huge difference for me. But I was forced to do it, because the stock stick wouldn't come out - got bound up on the driveshaft. Then I lowered the trans and it fell right out.... Onto my head.

Pretty sure the instructions say to lower the trans. But if it can be done without, good to know.

Did you install the sound deadening?

I'm hip. Had a starter motor on my 462 do that.

Not recommended. Note to self: never have the object you're removing directly over your face!

You can remove the transmission brace fully. Gives you that extra inch to inch an a half to work with.

It was a pain, and my hands looked like I'd stuck 'em in a blender, but overall wasn't the worst thing I've ever done on a car.

I need to get back in and really snug down the bolts holding the chrome stick in, they keep backing out on me.

Ouch, I'd take a shifter over a starter! Stupid gravity..

I installed my Hurst shifter a few weeks ago and had it up on jack stands as well. Those little screws were a little rough, but I could not get the dust cover back on for nothing. I damn near Clark Griswold out on that thing! ( you know the Christmas lights)and then I got a brainstorm I yelled for my loving wife for help so she got under the car and with her little hands it was on in about a minute or two.
