Tale of Two Exhausts

I'm in a serious pickle. I'm getting my Camaro any day now and I want to swap the exhaust as quick as possible, but I can't decide between the Flowmaster American Thunder and the Borla ATAK catback exhausts. If there was something with the ferocity of the ATAK but the lower tone of the AT, I would be on Cloud 9. Any ideas?

Subscribed.

I'm looking at the same thing.

Had Flowmasters AT on my 1LT and loved them but, traded it for 2SSRS. Looking at youtube for ideas. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

TSP LTs and Flowmaster AT cost me less than 1100 and I can add QTP cutouts for 400 bringing the grand total to ~$1500 and I get a quiet cruiser and the loudest possible racer…. Or you can spend ~$1350 on just a loud exhast. Dont get me wrong… I love the sound of the ATAK but for the $ and what you get its a no brainer.

its just not going to happen, if you want that deep tone, you are going to lose that ferocity. if you want loud, my opinion is resonated-X straight pipe it has the deeper tone, but has the heart pounding rumble. pure straight pipe, i had is just too much for sure. i dont like the sound from any muffler.

Flowmaster outlaw series are very deep and very loud, it is currently only available as an axle back, however paired with headers and catless x pipe it sounds awesome.

I built my own cat back, removed resonators and installed 1 chamber flowmasters. Very clean and mean... then went LTs and no cats and it sounds like a monster! I would go flowmaster's if you dont mind drone, they have the best sound hands down!

I have the American Thunder Cat-Back. I was very very pleased with the tone and rumble of the flowmaster exhaust, but I was very disappointed with the lacking of "loudness". It sounds good at an idle, sounds good when you rev it, but overall, it's not very loud. Maybe a notch louder than the stock exhaust. It's great for a daily driver.

Exhaust note is essentially up to your own ears, and people are going to be opinionated to what they have and what they know. Im running Flowmasters on my 79 Z28, so it just made sense to use them on my '11.

I can tell you this, though... I'm already looking into headers, purely for sound (okay, and maybe the power) and it hasn't been month...

Borla ATAK is where it is at for a aggressive exhaust. Makes a nice muscle car popping sound on de-acceleration too.

The popping sound happens on all exhaust systems. They don't have the pop-cancelling that the stock system does so it's much more apparant. The ATAK has nothing to do with the popping aside from being aftermarket.

there are hundreds of videos out there just start playing around on youtube, dont forget the sounds seem to change when you listen to too many, so when you decide listen to the first ones again, and see what you think then.

I've got Flowmaster American Thunder (axleback) and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It not only approximates the classic deep smooth roar of a muscle car in my opinion, it's also the least expensive you can buy (but still of very good quality). Borla ATAK sounds too raspy, too clackety clackety slap slap to me, but thats just my opinion, others love it.
