It's a project GTO that they eventually put Stainless Works full exhaust on, some suspension work, N20, AFR heads and a cam, and some other little goodies. It was a customer who bought the car, and then let them have at it.
Our suspension shouldn't look like that if the undercarriage pics' we've seen are accurate since this is a GTO.

If the camaro comes with a setup similar to the CTS V, wow. I don't expect it for a while though.

Yes the Challenger does have IRS thats why in most of the comparison tests that are being held now, (Motorweek, Motortrend, Edmunds) the Challenger is spanking the GT500.

Maybe Chevy is on to something here, the only thing about it, don't expect the high HP rate of a solid axle if it does happen to appear, breaking one of those axle shafts or blowing out a CV joints could be easily done if Chevy don't plan things right. Much like what happened when people started putting miles on there KB Cobras, I know more people with SA Cobras then IRS.

IRS can be built to handle power just fine. MKIV Supras are easily 800+ RWHP cars and most run the stock IRS. I speak from experience (not 800 rwhp, but a pretty peppy Supra nonetheless).

Are the V6 models getting IRS also? I hope if they do get IRS's that it won't jack the price up too far over the V6 Mustang.

Not to start a 2jz vs. LS fight but low end torque is what destroys an IRS. I definitely think you are right though. An IRS can be built to put up with a lot. There are Corvettes that do it and there are Termi Cobras that can build theres to be pretty stout as well.

The re-engineering would cost more than just going with IRS on all models. The platform is designed for IRS: see G8, commodore, vxr8, etc.

Veyron anyone?
Veyron has 1000hp. It has IRS. It CAN be done...
5th Gen challenge? Axle hop. Strength... eh, maybe an issue if you start pushing 1000hp or something, but up to 500hp (Z28 territory) it'll be fine. ~LSx
