volt question / lightning gt
i found this while looking @ electric car stuff. sounds interesting, the first link is to a very nice looking electric car.
lightning gt the second is to the battery tech that is in the car. battery tech now just and idea if the volt used this battery then it would get way over the 600 miles per tank they are saying it should get. i mean a 10 min 100% charge time is outstanding, and the predicted 250 mile range. i'm just thinking a 1000 mile per tank might even be attainable. i would like to know what you all think. |

The idea with the volt isn't to have a pure electric car - they have a limmited range. So for the volt they are going with a small, relatively light battery pack to be suplemented by the range extending generator. So its range is 40 mi +600 mi. I don't know the specifics of the battery design for the volt, since I don't think they have selected a manufacturer for that yet. But based on what they say, if the volt were to have batteries based on that technology then it should have an electric range of 160-200 mi without adding any weight. I have no idea about bulk though, or cost. These most likely will cost more, but they should prove to be more durable in the long run.
If things pan out, then expect to see lots of hybrids and electric cars using that battery, unless something better is found. I've heard that they have recently figured out how to get 10x the juice out of LiIon's. I think it was one of the companies that is working on the Volts batteries that made that announcement. So who knows.

I'd take electric/gas powered any day. Running off of pure electric is fine and all....until the crap hits the fan, there is no electricity in the power stations to charge your car cause they are blown up or worse...lol...and then there's your car sitting there. ... ... ... no juice. Ok, I dont' know where that hypothetical stuff came from. BUT........I'd want a hybrid.
Yes, I'd like to have a 1,000 mile range in a car like the Volt. Shooot....I'd sell off the SS, but the Volt, and then buy the new 5th Gen as well. |

that thing wouldn't last 5 miles with the way Some people drive that powerful of a car...
as for a 10 minute charge?... it takes my tiny lil mp3 player 10 minutes to charge to full... I don't think even the Jetson's had something that awesome... keep dreaming Henry Biggs... maybe in a couple hundred years if we haven't destroyed the earth by then..

Did you read that it has an engine sound generator so that it sounds like a V-8 engine. I guess you really can have it all....

the time to charge depends on a lot of things like the input power source and the resistance of the charger itself for instance, your mp3 player is taking a charge from a 110v outlet. do you think your mp3 player runs at 110v? its got a resistor in the charger to limit how much is being charged. also look at the battery setup differences between the two.

That's freakin increadible! It's a mix between Aston Martin and Maserati. That ais just gorgeous!!! Beauty and it's completely enviromentally safe being full electric. Goodness, I wouldn't mind that being the future of electric cars!!
make sure ya'll read the article. this could easily be the future of the electric car. Man, does this future look bright! |

Sure, it could take a 10 minute charge. You'll have to park next to the nearest nuclear power plant, though. There's no way that common mains power can provide enough juice in 10 minutes to drive that car 250 miles.
