part of me is wondering if the auto-open component would have another spot for auto close -- if its the same component as the windows, it would. if its the BCM.... then its computer controlled.

Looks like I'm getting the relay today, or tomorrow at the latest! I'm hoping to find some time this weekend to do the installation!

Safety issue for people getting trapped in the sun roof. They dont want people putting their heads up the sunroof and the button getting hit.

Great Thread

my cadillac SRX's panorama roof has express close. i guess it would be annoying to hold the button for so long on that one considering it is a 4 foot long sunroof that opens all the way

Thumbs down fail.

Got the part and tried to do this tonight. Couldn't do it at the switch, so I stuck my hand in the headliner and pulled the harness of the sunroof motor.

result:

Failure. Can't be done with switch wiring or wiring at the sunroof motor. There are no 12v switched wires.

there are 4 wires that go to the switch
light blue - control wire to sunroof motor harness
dark blue - ? to sunroof motor harness
black - ground
yellow - 12v

there are 5 wires in the sunroof Motor Harness
red - constant 12v+
black - ground
brown - ? - flashes 4 or 5 readings between 9v and 10v all the time (even without touching any switches)
light blue - control wire from switch
dark blue - ? wire from switch

the switch indeed has 4 positions. But instead of 4 12v wires, including one that i can tap into to trigger the 528T, there is ONE wire that changes when you hit the button. It reads one of 5 different voltages depending on what you push (off, open1, open2, close1, close2). The actual contacts inside the switch (i actually took the switch apart) all 4 contact the same pin in the harness, just with different resistance, and therefore different resulting voltage.

The sunroof motor assembly probably has the control features inside it that read voltage from the light blue wire, and tells the motor what to do. In order to make this work it seems, I'd have to pull the headliner, dismantle the sunroof motor, find the actual 12v close signal inside the assembly, possibly screw around with the circuit board, etc. I doubt I'll actually do it, at least without a little more certainty that i can make it work without screwing anything up.

So, Sorry guys... I got everyones hopes up for nothing.

Sounds like that brown wire is a data wire of some sort.. Maybe it'll just take a computer update or something to get it to work, since the switch already has the 4th position that is connected to the car. We can only hope now that they may decide to turn it on, or let us have that option at least. Anyone here work at a GM dealer that may be able to let us know if there is a customization in the diagnostic computer to do this?

Yeah i'm thinking the brown wire goes to the BCM. the light blue/dark blue wires from the switch go directly to the motor assembly, so the brown wire must communicate with the BCM. Darn all this new computer technology!

http://www.inalfa-roofsystems.com/

they are the maker of our sunroofs (according to the wiki page here). I have emailed them on behalf of all of us asking if there is a way to modify the sunroof control to do this.

hoping for a positive response!

Wow, received this response from them already.

Hello Joey,

I’m sorry to inform you that that is not possible for the Camaro sunroof. The reason why is that the motor software has no anti trap features. So legally you cannot do that. Being the owner you can make modification to your car but to do this for this particular sunroof you have to rewrite the motor software. This is something that you cannot do yourself and we don’t have that available for this car.

Thank you,

That sucks. Not like I'm gonna be hanging out the roof while it's closing. And why not put the anti-trap in the software and make it auto-close.
