pretty sure the g8 rear diff is a zf unit and has a different size ring and pinion, and the housing is totally different(but the mounts are in the same location as camaro), the camaro diff is an AAM made unit,, the lpe gears come from AAM but for some reason if you ask any aam dealer about them they say not availible ,, LPE must have some kind of deal going with AAM that they are they only ones able to sell them??

Apex, whats your opinion of the 4:33 over the 4:10 with the LS3? (I'm more concerned with streetability rather than track time. I'm thinking 4:10 would be the right choice?)

I looked them up... $700 + $200 for the install kit and then cost of install... Thats a big bite. My Richmonds were not that much BUT... hows that saying go... something about what you get related to cost...

4.33 is a pretty aggressive gear but its not as outrageous as a lot of people think. It only runs about 100 RPM higher at 70 MPH than the 4.10s so its still pretty streetable. However, for an aggressive street application with no track aspirations like your talking about the 4.10 ratio is probably the correct choice.

Any problems with the 3.73s in the L99? I sure hope not. My tune was put on hold until I get the gears...now hearing this, heck I don't know what to think.

There have only been a handful of 4.10 failures and only one reported 3.73 failure the details of which have not been given. We have put dozens of Richmond gear sets in the 5th generation Camaro and not seen a failure yet. I'm not saying we won't, just that it's not the widespread problem people are making it seem like. I wouldn't be too worried.

I've had the 4.10's for about 400 miles now with no problems, but I have not done a hard launch (i.e., dump the clutch) from a stop either.
These reports are disturbing; like someone said earlier I suspect it's a problem with the steel quality. America doesn't make much steel any more (thanks to unions), much of it is imported from China. |

I have also had the 4.10s with Pfadt poly bushings for almost 1000 miles, no track launches but some mild clutch dumps, no problems. The 4.10s are OUTSTANDING. I fear no 2011 Mustank GTs!!!

I have to believe that even though it is with in Spec for hardness (which may be too hard) it still does not speak for the quality of the metal it self.
Richmond's Product Manager stated to me, Quote:
I have one set in a car with 742 RWHP that we drag race with slick and pound on the street with Drag radials NO Problem. I then have another car with just Gears that blew in 4 days, Does Not Make Any Sense. I set up both sets and they were both Dead Silent, Pinion depth and back lash both verified via Proper Measuring equipment I have been using for over 25 years. I have since set up another set in a High Power car and so far so good. Richmond you need to step up to the plate and replace that gear set. Ted.

I have not Studied Metallurgy so I can't comment but it makes sense to me.
We just need to get them to admit it and take care of they're Loyal Customers. These gears aren't 150.00, they charged enough to supply us all with Free Lifetime Replacements.
