I got a thing In the mail for my camaro's 18,000 mile check up.. Im wondering what the service.depart does for a fuel system service/tune up to see if i can do it myself.. I'm assuming a new fuel filter but I'm having a hard time finding its location..

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Fuel filters in with the pump in the tank. You dont change them. Its just a way to get you to come into the dealership. Wiper blades, tires, oil change, air filter and probably run a BG fuel system treatment through it. Check your bulbs and other stuff like that. Fluids and stuff like that. Thats why its called a "check up".

Drop a bottle of seafoam in your gas tank. That will clean up the fuel system.

Yeah but no need to do it on a car with 18k miles.

Another wasteful thing like the tranny flush. Probably causes more damage than good

No it shouldn't. Then again, wouldn't hurt to do at say 20k or 25k. Pick up a can of MAF cleaner & TB cleaner. Spend 30 minutes cleaning those items combined with seafoam and you will get a way better service than the dealerships fuel system treatment will get you for a ton less

Tranny flush is good at like 30k miles and if your gonna do it every 30k. But when people wait till 125k and do it, yes it does more harm then good.

Thanks for the info, does the seafoam make it idle rough?

Its not gonna hurt anything to do it but with 18k miles on it, your not accomplishing anything. The flyer is a way to get you into the dealership. Once your in they can UPSALE flushes and services. An 18k service? Sound weird to anybody but me? If the cars running fine and you upkeep on it, throw the damn flyer in the trash.

All true but, i am religious about it. My TB & MAF come off and get cleaned every oil change. Seafoam if i feel it's needed but no it shouldn't be at 18k

At 15k I paid $89 to have my Throddle body cleaned and idle reset. Biggest waste of money. I just got a 30K check-up flyer in the mail, so I called and asked what the 30k check-up included . Throddle body cleaning, oil change, and a top end cleaning, $381 on sale, needless to say I'll be buying another can of Seafoam... I only put a little in the gas tank, and the rest in the engine, let it stay for 100 miles and change the oil.

Your service department is ripping you off. Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual.

And with a properly functioning catchcan setup you should never need either as you eliminate the cause.
