I certainly have no intention of paying for the xm service when my year free expires, unless the signal is more reliable.
Most likely it is the trees. When I used to go to my Daughter house their is strech of trees 8 miles long. I would lose reception 10 to 12 times. I have Sirius now and I only lose signal about 5 times now.

In addition, they are routing the calls to call centers which is another source of annoyance as much of the conversation revolves repeating myself or asking them to repeat themselves.

Any tips on how to talk to someone stateside for a cheap renewal?

Thanks,

Just ask for a supervisor. I just renewed mine this morning for $77 a year, and have never paid more than that for 3 yrs.

XM Free!

After 5 years of XM I finally got out.....was not easy, multiple calls to customer service to stop service, once they have your CC# they will not stop billing/renewing/charging!

Same ole songs over & over (just like FM).

I tried to get a better deal when my free trial ended and they wouldn't work with me (customer service really is awful) so I cancelled it. Got an email a month ago for 6 months for $25 so I figured I'd go for it. If they won't give me another 6 months for $25 when that runs out, I'll just cancel again and wait for another email lol

I use my iPod a lot too but I've never tried to use Pandora through my phone. Didn't know I could do that! I'll give it a shot!

Keep an eye on your credit card statements for a while after the 6 months is up. I went with this deal, called and canceled after it ran up, a few weeks later I had a charge for over $400 for 1 year subscription. I called and they quickly refunded me.

This. Just call them up and say that you got an offer from them in the mail for the $70/year price:

In early 2010 right before my trail ended they offered me an XM lifetime subscription for $450. I took it and I am happy with the service and no annoying phone calls.

Being from Oregon originally, I know first hand that trees, mountains or any obstruction to the south will interupt the signal. I always have had to choose a different source while driving through the Columbia River Gorge as the gorge walls on the south side of the river are quite high and block the signal half the time.

It used to be you could listen online for free. I found a couple months ago that they want you to pay now online. How many people would do that when Pandora is a click away? I will probably let my subscription lapse when it comes due. I really do like being able to get live sports on XM though and not have to hunt for radio stations while driving on long trips. I've had XM since the first week they were on air in November 2001 and DTV since 1995. You would think they would reward a long time subscriber. Not try to milk ya for more.

I got it for 103 for a year and that is for ever channel they offer. At first they wanted 215 for the year. I told them no way and the told me how about 103 for the year I jumped all over that.

That's exactly what happens. When you start to get the envelopes in the mail that are yellow... that's the time to start paying attention.
