Muscle Cars vs Electric Cars

Good article.

At the Chevy stand, for example, the Volt made way for the new Camaro ZL1 — a 550-horsepower version of the reborn “pony car,” which General Motors’ design chief Ed Welburn proclaimed “the most technically advanced Camaro ever built.”

Muscle cars obliterate gas, electric cars grow grass. End of story.

Be careful what you say about electricity and cars. Without it we would be push starting diesels. I would avoid that.

With many manufacturers getting into the Hybrid and extended range Electric Business; I am not all that afraid of what may become available as the technology advances.

Heck, Porsche had a Hybrid in the Petit LeMans race last fall. Add to that the "Green Challenge as a sub category for the ALMS series..... Progressive thinking that maybe would help save NASCAR and the other major racing series.

May be the best of both worlds long term, reduced fossil fuel reliance and high tech performance from the new powertrains. Not really a bad picture if ya ask me. (Which I know you didn't!)

I will forever love the sound of a burbling V6 or a roaring V8, especially of the GM variety. Seriously, it doesn't get any better than those old 2.8's, the new 3.6, a Quadrajet 350, or our mighty LS3

Electric cars will be fun from a performance standpoint. But I will miss combustion engines if we go that route. I just don't understand why they've got to be so dorky (Prius, Volt, Tesla). Can we put an electric setup in a car like the Camaro already?

I sure hope it doesn't come to this. But it well may.

With what PG&E charges an electric car just does not make sense. Once I can afford solar panels an electric car makes commuting sense.

And there was a time some said they'd be damned if they ever had to give up on the dependability of their horse. LOL

It will be some time before electric vehicles can come close to replacing an ICE car, particularly in the U.S.. I know I drive on vacation and there is simply no way an EV can accomodate the several trips I take South each year. And I too would miss the performance of a nice small block V8. However, having driven the Volt, that is really an awesome alternative to the 4 cylinder or even 6 cylinder cars. It's actually pretty fun and as that technology improves and becomes more cost effective, I can see a Range Extended EV in my future.
