2011 SS FRONT POWER OUTLET REPLACEMENT

The front power outlet shorted out when a piece of metal fell in it. I’ve removed the fuse, bought the official GM removal tool and got it this far.
Don’t want to start yanking and pulling or I’ll break the attached wire. I can’t solder for crap so don’t want to do that. Anyone done this. Help

Pull the entire console out. Use plastic trim tools so you don't scratch it and unplug it so you can replace the outlet on a bench.

The piece of metal destroyed the outlet? I've had pennies fall into outlets. Removed item and replaced fuse. No issue. The fuse should have blown before the metal could have welded to the outlet.

Here’s what happened. The pocket clip fell off of a pen into the open power outlet. The outlet sparked, with a little smoke. The clip was ejected onto the floor. The black plastic or whatever the material is, at the inside bottom of the outlet was broken into several pieces and the fuse did not blow. Can’t explain why the fuse didn’t go, but it didn’t. Tried a new fuse just in case but it didn’t solve the problem.

Noticed there was a tint torq screw in the bottom of the receptacle. Took it out and the receptacle came right out exposing the red and black wires. Now just need to find the right new receptacle. Got one from GMPartsonline but not even close.

Check one of your local bone yards for a wrecked camaro. Should be able to get one for a couple bucks..

After doing some online research I found out that what I need comes wired , ready to plug into the harness under the guage cluster. What I had done on my old one was disconnect the metal cylinder from the harness. So now I have 2 choices, disconnect the new lighter from the harness and hire a very very small person with tiny hands to connect the new lighter to the old harness. Good luck on that. Or pulling the plastic off the guages , shift lever et Al , and attaching the new harness. That I believe, is the answer. I’ve order the new assembly from the local Chev dealer, for $9.00.
