abusing a car can void warranty. you'll just have to see how that particular dealership's definition of "abuse" is.

Not the dealership's, but GM's definition of abuse. I'm sure ANY dealer would gladly take the warranty work if approved by GM.

Launch control is specifically referenced in the book -- as a feature. I would be very upset if something happened while following the manual's instructions and the dealership refused to honor a warranty.

tell that to Nissan GT-R owners! hahahahaha

but then again, their warranty booklet says in small print that sport mode voids warranty

If they offer launch control as a mode on the vehicle they should cover warranty if you snap an axle with launch control.

Some of you seem to think GM would term following a procedure (Launch Control) that's in the manual as abuse?!

...........I should hope NOT!

Might be a good idea to get the shredded rubber off the rear fenders and wheel-wells before they pick it up though!

dealer said mine is the first one theyve seen with this issue. they also said its usually a vette problem. maybe i got a really powerful stock one they said its covered but gm cant say as to when they may get the parts in as all parts are backordered. for now im in the impala rental :( also got me worried as i really wasnt abusing it. makes me wonder will the new one break or the other side or was this just a weak one? i saw a lot of people being alot harder on theirs at camarofest with minimal breakages.

I too have been very concerned about axle breakage. I had a long talk with Ted @Jannetty racing about this. The long and short of it seems to boil down to wheel hop. Ted said if you control the wheel hop you shold not break a stock axle. He had a car at the fest that ran 10.38 all day long on the stock drive train with no problems. He uses a 16" rim and tire combanation to elimante wheel hop. Just passing on what he explained too me.

Best thing to do with launch control is never use it. Too many variables such as surface grip and tire pressure to ever assure that will work without breakage as the result.

Can't tell you how many things I've seen people break using launch control - axles, driveshafts, output shafts, smoked clutches, differentials.

It may work if conditions are ideal. But most people have their rear tires way up at high psi, and that basketball bounce wheel hop on a sticky surface will bust parts everytime.
