Was the puck made in the USA? Did the stick come from Germany? The mask from Sweden?

The build quality of a given vehicle, has many facets. Design, Engineering, and Assembly. Each of these components determines the overall quality of the vehicle. The days of moribund design, engineering, and assembly are going away, if they haven't already. The pressure to improve brought on by the Overseas companies, has made that happen.
By the way, the folks at Oshawa, are top notch. The top quality assembly ratings of this plant were hard earned and well deserved.

The short of it is that the plant needed a car to produce. Contract negotiations were up around the same time the Camaro was announced...and historical obligations to the CAW also came into play. (St. Therese was not an easy plant to shutter when the 4thgen died.) That's the politics...the logistical side of things is that Oshawa is the second-highest performing assembly plant on the CONTINENT (including competitors). So it was a natural choice for a high-profile vehicle like the Camaro. It was also one of the few plants capable of accepting a new flexible assembly line necessary to build the Zeta-platform-based Camaro. The guys and gals up north are doing an amazing job. While it'd be nice and feel-good to say the car was assembled in the US...I can't think of a place I'd rather have the Camaro produced. |

Thank your politicians for this. Thank CAFE (corporate average fuel economy). When CAFE was first passed our Camaros were built in Anneheim CA. Each company must adhere to 2 seperate CAFE standards, one for domestic cars and one for imports. Because the imports as a rule are smaller and more fuel efficient, it became more practical to build the V-8 cars in Canada so that they can be considered imports for CAFE purposes. This is why Ford built the Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis in Canada too. Chevrolet moved Camaro production to Trieste Quebec with the generation 4's, I know this because I have owned Anneheim cars and 2 Quebec gen 4's.

Wow the can was full of worms
You all have interesting comments and I respect your thoughts. I did not want this to turn into a union debate. I personally have worked in both sectors. Billion dollar corporations and Unions have their positives and negatives. I have the money and scares to prove it. I will never doubt that our friends from the north arent hard and proud workers. I bet a guy from Tanzania would loved to be part of a great machine. Here is another angle to consider (or pin pulled on a grenade), how would "Corvette Guy" like to have his Vette built in another country ???

This Limey's just glad someone builds it. I don't don't care who builds it, or where. The Camaro is, at the moment, probably one of the best looking cars in the world, and I'm grateful to be the benefactor of GM's wisdom.
