This is definitely still an issue for some with a big investment in custom wheels. Some semi-metallic pads give off not only heavy black dust, but also substances that are corrosive and etch some wheel finishes. It's all in the binders that the pad manufacturer selects. Some owners don't care, but others will not put up with etching an $8k set of show wheels.

Some do, some don't. I have used some compounds that are pretty easy on rotors. It's a few of the "almost" high-end pads (usually budget autocross pads) that are hell on rotors when cold and a little better when hot.

I dunno maybe, but I member what real brake dust was when I had my 79 Camaro, clean the rim and the next day my red rallys were coal black



I like the ones with copper bits
