- Auto trans in sport mode (drive just doesn't cut it, sport holds onto 3rd longer) - Nannies off for the whole run including burnout (else any slippage and the computer cuts power on launch) - Head right on through the water and do a medium-style burnout (little, if any, smoke) - Try to get the launch rpm at 1k (too much higher and I slip), stomp on the gas as soon as I see the third yellow and hope for the best I've really been focusing on my R/T lately because it actually does matter in bracket racing. I've lost rounds with a better time due to worse R/T. Best R/T so far is a .019 though those .0's are hard to come by. I'm working on it.

You must be doing some serious brake standing to be stalling a stock automatic up to 2,300 rpm on take off.
If you are getting 2.1 or 2.2 60' times that ain't bad, but have you ever tried heating up the tires, and then launching from not much higher than idle? Say 800 - 1,000 rpm? That type of launching has produced some of the best 60' times I've seen. I've seen read on here, a ZL1 owner say that with his completely stock automatic, that his best 60' times where from launching just above idle. In fact I think he has one of better 1/4 mile times listed on this site for a stock ZL1.

I think that is kind of apples to oranges with the ZL1 but I always do a medium burnout and i try to launch at the highest rpm without wheel spin. Which with the track prep here i found to be 2300-2500... ill give it a shot just not sure what launching at a lower rpm would give me

I'll chime in. My best 60' times where with the nannies off, break stand to 2-2.3k and let her rip.
This is with drag slicks but have had good success going sub 2 with Goodyear street tires although I would launch at a little less, around 1.8k (psi @ 20lbs) Slips below were with the slicks but have gone 1.93 with the street tires.

I have made 149 passes, following the help and guidance from scrming. when on street tires I was leaving at 1000 rpms. Anything higher I was spinning. Did those with nannies on. Any time I had them off I would spin for sure. But traction is limited at our track. When I have run my new (used) drag radials, I have the nannies off and have tried different RPM's to leave on. I wll be going to the track again in the fall and testing some more on what to try for launching at. My best 60' recently was a 1.936

Same here Mike (as far as launching I only have like 50 passes under my belt). In Indy I was messing around with my launch RPMs during the open racing Saturday afternoon and even with the amazing track prep my best 60ft' on my street tires was without doing a burnout, leaving everything on and launching at idle. I played around with launch RPMS and would spin the higher I launched at. I'll have to mess around with it again once I get my trailing arms installed but the local track is not prepped well. |

Not a record but thought I'd share this. Day 2 Summit Super Series Event #5 @ South Georgia Motorsports Park.
This is from round 1. I also won round 2 with an almost identical 14.356 and .057 R/T and the same dial. Semifinals I slipped a bit and did a 14.397 with a .174 R/T and lost to the person I beat in round 1. I should have dialed up a smidge and/or cut a better R/T (his was a .022 and had a good run too). Oh well, can't win 'em all I suppose.

Looks my last trip to the track this year will be Aug 30th... With any luck I can break the 13 second barrier... Doubtful, but one can hope right?
Current fast time and mods below... Will hopefully have 3.27 geared diff, and FTI billet 3600 stall converter installed before the next race. |
