Also the electronics on a HID are more sophisticated and less tolerant of shoddy installs.. we are talking hundreds of volts here through a ballast.

TRUE DOT certified HID kits are usualy in the thousands range.
Very good point with the integrated high/low beams - this will be very expensive aftermarket!

Exactly - it's the little details that make a world of difference. You'd have to pay a crapload of money for a shop to do this correctly, plus I doubt they would warranty it

Ya know what? I think you guys are starting to turn me!!!

The HID's are bad arse...and yea... maybe aftermarket isn't the way to go... If a good aftermarket kit is going to be close to the same price.... crap.

Also the roof molding!! I almost forgot about that. Hmm the molding being the same color is actually a big deal now that I think about it... I don't want black stripes going down the sides of my roof.... DAMN!!!

OK....BUT! I still don't care for the Midnight Finish Rims as much..... I'd rather have the Polished. Someone said this isn't available on the RS?? Hmmmmm... damn can't we just get "exactly" what we want??

Heheh, no problem Franknbeans, I actually qualify for the employee discount though, so if you're picking it's only $960.00

also, i read somwhere on here that the RS tail lights we saw from Indy, aren't the finished product RS tailights. They will be darker.

A guy on 5thgen.org said he tried to order a SS/RS with polished rims and it was kicked out of the system. His dealer supposedly called someone at the factory (?) and they okayed the order that way. I find that hard to believe, but if true, there ya go. He said the dealer was Reliable Chevrolet in Texas...maybe Houston, not sure.

For the look 1200 to upgrade the SS is a steel and the quality of the lights far out weigh aftermarket.

No RS with my SS either. I admit the halo thing is neat and nothing like driving at night with HID's. The option is great value but I also like the look of the SS with the huge headlights. The roof molding might bug me but that's an easy Saturday morning fix. Now - how am I going to get rid of that mailslot.....

I went around in circles about getting a SS without the RS pack, but now I'm glad. I want to keep it as it came from the factory..... But, I have to put on red rally stripes...Oh, I have too

They shouldn't burn out under the warranty time-frame, but replacement HID bulbs tend to run about $50-75 - those aren't competitive online/street prices or anything, just what I typically pay for my bimmer
