L99 Belt Split?!
Today I started hearing this loud tapping/ticking sound from the engine bay. Upon looking it is a belt that runs horizontal across the bottom of the engine that split along the rib.
On occasion recently i have had white smoke from exhaust as well (oil burning correct?). And the car has been driving a bit different i think, could just be crazy thinking back on it but it seems to shift differently lately, engine lagging at times, etc. I also have the dreaded lifter noise. My question/concern is this. The camaro has 46,XXX miles on it. What is the potential cause of the problems i am having? Will it be covered by the power train warranty or anything? Help??

My guess..........
The smoke = cold temps and you are just sensitive with the belt problem. The belt = Is what it is. Probably just one of those things. Especially if that belt had been taken off before and put back on without the proper tool. The driving funny = Paranoid I hope I'm right. |

If you need help swapping the belt I can do it tomorrow morning before going over to Expo. Then you can take it in and have the lifter ticking checked out. If I remember right you have not tuned or anything yet...

I'm hoping that all it is. Have the new one at home now, just need the time and extra set of more experienced hands now!
Hoping its just the belt that was bad and its all good and not another reason that caused the belt to break. Will hop back on here and update once we get it installed and running again for sure PQ.

A/C belt split on mine at 5k miles. Seemed to be a common issue that they dealt with at the dealership. Replaced the belt and checked the A/C and crank pulleys to ensure they were tight.

One REALLY expensive little belt. Cost $50.00!!! Not wanting to tear in and have to buy a new one! Going to see about the "tool" the package mentions or might just ask the dealership to throw it on real quick because i need to take it in anyway for the lifter.
