I did lots of research and just odered what I found to be the best on the market and found the best deal on it.
I got the 9500ix from southern car parts. (it ran about $500 but it's a package deal with all the extras and no shipping or tax... I found it "cheaper" on amazon but by the time you added smartcord, better mount, tax, shipping it wasn't "cheaper" any longer... I even got the "race" limited edition at no extra charge which runs about $50 extra on amazon)

They are a sponsor on this forum.

Do your homework on detectors in your state and also your insurance companie's policies on them...
In most states it's "technically" illegal to have them, and many insurance companies will drop you like a hot potato if they find out you have one in the car.

Just a passing thought. I know lots of people still use them. I tend to err on the side of caution..

My radar detector is my own eyes and senses. Get to know the usual hiding places and the places you would hide if you were the police. Watch for cues like slowing traffic, break lights, cars changing lanes away from the shoulders, approaching a hill crest and possibly aircraft in the area. I average maybe 1 speeding ticket per 5 years so I think thats pretty good and have not had one in the Camaro yet.

Mmmmm really? detectors are legal everywhere except for Virginia and DC (and canada). How can your insurance co drop you for having something legal in the car?

I got the 9500ix in dec. 2010 and has paid for itself. I have avoided many tickets. It even has laser, even tho if you are hit by it your done regardless. And there is a hard wire kit to have it powered by the rear view mirror.

They aren't a waste of money, if used in conjunction with a little common sense. I've been using one for 20 years (presently a 9500ix) and have received only one speeding ticket. Found out the hard way that if you detect and see a LEO with someone already pulled, don't speed up as you go by assuming the signal is still coming from him. It could be another one coming at you around the next curve.

I've been in the market for one. Interesting thread. I've been looking at a Valentine 1 or the 9500ix.

How to hug your camaro
Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

his blue line says cop....if you want one they will give you some heads up but don't expect them to save you every time..the more stuff they do the more they cost on the high end around 400... don't bother with the low end they just make noise...but watch your speed and you don't need to worry about this...but it is nice to know when you got a leo hiding on the side of the road trying to make his quota....
