Well my Z 06 gets around 13 to 15 in city driving and jumps up to right around 30 on the highway at steady speed. It seems to do best around 60 to 65 and it drops off a bit from there. I know the aerodynamics are different but on the highway I would be surpirsed if they cant get 26 or so broken in.

If you want good gas mileage out of an LS3 motor..you need to up shift earlier..

I'd rather enjoy the vehicle and forget about the gas mileage but...for the times I want good gas mileage ...you need to shift out of each gear around 3K rpms ..

Put the vehicle in the highest gear as soon as possible. Thats what the automatic transmissions do..

Around town having fun...the gas mileage in my LS3 Manual transmission Corvette is around 14 mpg.. so I'd bet your just enjoying the ride ..

The great part about the LS3 engine is you can decide what you want.. Want a 426hp beast..you got it. Want a fuel miser? just drive it easy and sift up early on...

Congrats on the ride.

I never stalled it or anything, but I know I was concerned about it, for a while. I excellerated at a pretty good clip most of the time. Occassionaly fast, but most times just aggressive, not leisurely. Will my next tank be better?, I sure hope so, 13 is nowhere near the 18 - 24 its supposed to be getting. BTW I love this beast!
i guess it depends on the road then, i just drove from LA to Las Vegas, which is about 270 miles or so and I only went through a half tank of gas, averaged 20.3 mpg..

Agree that after break in should be better. But a high HP engine in city driving is always gonna be a bit low. That's comes with the turf of high power sports cars.

I would also try to find NON-ethanol if you can. I get about 3-4 mpg better with out ethanol even the "may contain 10%". I do have a turbo VW, but it is really amazing the difference. I wouldn't panic, my dad can get 32 on the hwy with his corvette LS2. I think you will find a pretty good bump on this tank. I drove my 99 ....well at a good clip and got 19 - 20 in town.

car being brand new and the way you drive it, if your doing city driving and laying it to the wood, 13 will be the norm.

MPG

Still on my second tank, so I don't have any new numbers as of yet. I'm not particularly worried about MPG, it's more of a habit than anything else. I track MPG on all my cars as an indicator when a problem may develope. Any major change in MPG on an engine surely points to something not wuite right. All of what you guys have said is true, especially not knowing if the tank was truly filled by the dealer, or perhaps a bit short of full. Most, if not ALL of my driving at this point has been city, so that is a factor as well. Yeah, she is hard to drive without driving her like the performance car she is, so I'm guilty of the lead foot as well. I don't 'spose this next tank will give much better numbers, as I've continued to enjoy the power, but I'll let y'all know. She is two weeks old now, and just under 200 miles on her. I'm driving my Tundra to work today. I'll be driving "blue" as a second car, for probably most of the year. I hope everyone enjoys their new Camaro as much as I have mine, she is a beauty!

It's average fuel economy, I believe.

Try around 2k. 3k is pretty high if you are trying to save gas.

Plus, skip shift. Yes, intentionally skip shift. I go 1-3-6 while Im in town and I easily get 19 MPG in the city with my LS1. Youve just got to take it easy and youll get good mileage.

Also, with the amount of torque available you need to learn how to get going from an idle before you learn how to go while giving it some power. That will give you the best idea of how to apply the power while releasing the clutch without doing it to slowly and glazing it.
