Differential clutch gone bad?

Took my 2012 1LS to the dealer for a groaning noise that I would hear coming from the differential area while at slow speeds and making turns (i.e. in a parking lot type situation). They said it is something to do with the rear differential clutch and that they need to tear it all down and find out which part is broken and replace it. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I am wondering if this is a somewhat common type of thing to go wrong, or is it just a fluke?

I would change the fluid first and make sure friction modifier is added, drive again and see if it goes away.

Don't really have time this weekend unfortunately, and I have an appointment to drop it off on Monday, do you think it would be detrimental to just let them take it apart and re-build it since it will be covered under warranty anyway?

Mine has groaned from day one. Sounds just like my older trucks with an LSD. When I asked the dealer about it they said it was normal. Just the nature of the GM LSD. Automatics dont make this sound, because they arent equipped with a limited slip.

They called today, said nothing was broken and that they just added some friction modifier and said it should go away within 500 miles.

Ya you were right. I guess I just figured since it is under warranty and it was already in for another issue, let them do what they want and figure it out.
