Rear Fill - What to do

I'm looking for some opinions of what I should do with my rear speakers. I have Hertz Hi-Energy 6.5" components in front and the factory rear 6x9" speakers in the rear. I like a bit of rear fill but when I run them they seem to detract from the clean sound I get from my front speakers.

I do have another problem with the OEM rear speakers too though. I cannot get them quiet enough by just adjusting gains on my amp (they are 2 ohm vs the 4 ohm fronts) and the factory head head unit has a very strong input signal so it doesn't leave much room to adjust gains down any further.

I've been running with them disconnected the last few weeks and it sounds much cleaner. I'm getting used to no rear fill, but I guess I still like it. So my question is, should I get new aftermarket rear speakers (that are 4 ohm) or just forget the rear fill all together?

I would eliminate the rear fill. It just takes away from the front imaging. Also, mismatching different speaker line does have an effect on tone.

If you look at most high sound quality systems they eliminate it or use a small mid only, no tweeter.

Eliminate the rears is what I did.

I think I'm getting used to no rear fill. It is certainly cheaper and easier to just not have it.

It's a 4ohm tweeter and 4 ohm woofer in parallel.

We just an update for anybody that is interested. I'm used to not having the rear fill now. I'm 100% happy with this solution. It is definitely better than trying to blend both the front and rear.

Totally depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I have done cars with no rears, have done one or two steps down of the same thing as the front (Energy coaxes, for instance, in your case), and even done matching front and rears. All based on what the end user wants out of their system.

I have done MANY a car, including the Z06 that I demo daily on our floor, with a processor and a preset tuned to give a rear that's noticeable to some degree or another (useful when you really want to crank and have the subs way up) and another with the rears playing louder than you'd think when you listen to it, but they are not audible as a discrete source.
