Come on, don't you know that the chrome adds like 50hp? Everyone knows this...

Wouldn't it be better to have the filter go down to the lower grills instead of staying in the engine bay?

My other comment got deleted, so I will just ask why is the pipe 2 pieces? Not that it will be huge, but that joint will make more air turbulence.

And like has also been said, Oiled filters will F up your new sensor.

Is that ceramic coated because if not it's going to absorb all the under hood heat.

this is wierd, I guess the heat shield will fix this.....
I just don't know what they where thinking, this almost seems worse to me. But i guess the intake is shorter and the surface area of the filter is bigger im sure. I just think they could of done much more with this.

I wonder how this one stacks up against the CAI from Fastlane (which draws air from the lower grill opening.

I'm sure you will see at least 6-10 deg. of spark retard when it is hot and the hood is shut. Just remember that for every 1 degree of spark is about 6Hp. A closed air box is always best with better flow to the outside air. This is why GM spends losts of time testing. Please don't take this to be negative.
I totally agree with CADGUY73 - at the most, use a cold box and a very decent non-oiled filter - rise above the ricers! The lowest amount of contaminants in the intake system (and eventually your engine) the better. I maintain this approach in my Avalanche as well.

It doesn't. Unless that is ceramic coated and has a heat sheild it's going to heat soak very quickly.

This is great info. This was so true on my 06 GTO. I had to replace my open element intake. I replaced it with the Volant.
