Nothing inherently wrong with that kit, though we did used to offer a very similar backing plate and stopped. The problem came with the plate unthreading during use unless a thread lock was used, so proceed with caution.

The plates we now sell are fixed shafts, no adapters - last thing you need is to lean on your polisher only to have the plate spin free and take a gouge out of your paint with a 5/8" threaded bolt - and trust me - it happened!

This plate is compatible with any tool that accepts a 5/16" threaded shaft, so PC, GG6, etc.

we also offer it with a non threaded shaft for drills:

Thanks for the heads up, I wouldn't want the pad to come off either.
Think I'll rule this kit out.

I used meguiars microfiber cutting pads on my 6" griots, and really liked the results I got with them, the 3" come actually 3.37".

The backing plate with the 6" has about 1/2" clearance from the housing.

I'm just worried that a 3.37" pad on the 6" griots which has a 3.5" housing with 1/2" clearance would be dangerous on concave areas of the car.

I see you have 4" microfiber cutting pads on your website. This same plate you are speaking of with these pads should work with the D300 Meguiars compound shouldn't it?

I'm just really scared the housing of the griot's 6" being wider than the backing plate and the pad will scrape on concave area's of the car.
As the pad is 3.37" and the housing is 3.5"

That's an unfounded fear. I do it all the time.

I sure wish I could see your technique in action. I don't doubt that you can, I'm just not sure I can.

I just don't understand how you think the housing will come anywhere near the paint.

In any case I hope you get it worked out. But I think, or rather I know, you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

I probably am making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I just can't figure out how I couldn't if the pad is smaller than the housing.

I think I just need to go with 4".

However the current pad I'm using (and love) only comes in 3.37" in the smaller size. The housing is 3.5" I'm going up the rear part under the back seat side window where the flat area gets so thin, I cannot see the pad because it's smaller than the housing and bam I rub the edge of the housing against the paint. Same with doing the spoiler, and the recessed areas in rear.

OMG I still have one of the old Adam's threaded 4" backplates like in the CCS kit, can I trade it in for the "safe" version? I've never had a problem with it but hearing that totally freaks me out!

I can work a deal for you on the new one, or the simple solution that seemed too escape many people - use a little loctite on the threads and its never going to be an issue.

Ok so this is what I decided on,

3.5 inch lake country flexible backing plate w/

4 inch Buff and shine cutting pad. Now I just need the weather to cooperate. Maybe Friday.
However I feel it may be a sin in the eyes of the golf gods not to play when you've had an entire week off from work.

Don't forget to install the fiber washer with that backing plate.
