A very nice write up. My Snap On dealer bought a killer GT500 after he saw my ZL1 and it is a wickedly good looking car. Glad to hear you are happy with the switch.

What a thorough and well written comparison, regardless of "for me".

Welcome to C5 and congrats on your new ride.

Then if you want to mod, the parts are already there and proven since the CTS-V. The 6th gen will somewhat a new learning experience since I hear they are tailoring the LT1 to the Camaro because of dimensions. No telling when the high performance variant will come out and what it will contain lol.

I'm hoping the 6th gen Camaro will be ugly too lmao.
I'd rather have the "Sounds like V8 at all times"

I think you're thinking of Mark Reuss' comment below.

Look at what some of the competition did on their next-gen -- it's heavier; it doesn't quite perform as well as the last one. I can tell you that. If you think about Z/28 and ZL1, SS -- think about the satisfaction that a ZL1 offers you today off of current Zeta. Think about that satisfaction moved down from an accessibility and model-range standpoint. Think about that. If you like the ZL1 today, you're going to love the SS tomorrow. Think about that from a philosophical standpoint.

I always felt the ZL1 was the better looking car. I love the wide rear fenders and slight camber on the wheels that allow them to hug the outside.

Dang you killed that Shelby. It's so weird rooting for the ZL1 now... hahaha

For the 1/4 miles, I do honestly believe with these two cars it comes down to mods and driver.

For the track, I'm not sure the Shelby can be made to consistently run faster laps than the ZL1. Maybe you get a lucky lap here or there but out of 10, I think the ZL1 will definitely have a faster average and better grouping. But again, mods and driver.

For me the right choice was the car that can do it all well and still be a nice ride on the street.

The main thing that attracted me was the "662" from the factory. Little did I know it would be very easy to pass that with a simple pulley swap. Then I had no doubt when I put 3 car Lengths on a 2013 with a tune, while I was bone stock

^^^ lol. If this happened two years ago, this would have a caused a meltdown with a bunch of Ford guys coming on here to flame him. Odd thing was when I bought mine none of the Ford dealers would let anyone test drive the 13 GT500, so I test drove the ZL1 and bought it.

PS, I'm sure the 6th Gen SS will be nice but doubt it will be totally on par with a 5th Gen ZL1. This is only my opinion and I am certain others will disagree with this. I just can't see a 35 something thousand dollar base price SS being on par with a 55 something dollar base price ZL1. A 6th Gen Z-something will be another story, I guess we will see soon enough.
That would be pretty generous of GM to make the 2016 SS better or on par with the ZL1. I'm guessing they will offer more options on the SS but we'll see.
