TR6060 Notchy Feel fix?
I have a Challenger that also uses the TR6060 and came across this,
This is writeup is for the T56, but the TR6060 is similar and apparently the same goes for it: Here's the trick: Remove the big bolt that is high up on the passenger side of the T56. The bolt will take a 15/16" or 24mm socket to get it off. No fluid will come out. No springs will fly out. Nothing catastrophic will happen. This bolt has a ball and spring setup behind it that applies pressure to a detent in the trans. What you want to do is to shim out this big ol' bolt with a washer (or washers) by about 1/16" to alleviate some of the pressure on the spring. Go either to NAPA and get part #704-1357 or Pep Boys or Autozone will have the same washers as a Dorman Oiltite part #65277. These are 13/16" or M20 copper oil drain plug washers and the pack of two costs $1.79. Yup. That's all! Put two of these washers under the bolt I described and tighten it back up. YOU WON"T BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR SHIFTS!!! IT'S AMAZING!!! My car has always been hard to shift...really notchy going in and out of gears. It always felt to me like hitting a wall in between shifts. I got the MGW and it helped a little. I've done the RP tranny fluid and I even did the friction modifier fix but neither one did much to help mine. THIS DID THE TRICK!!! Now it shifts smooth as silk. Try it. Bet you'll love it! http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...address-81133/ http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/...ansmission+mod http://www.z06vette.com/forums/f5/an...ift-mod-84344/ Last edited by RiCorvette; 07-02-2012 at 03:16 PM. |

Do you find the tranny notchy? When I hear notchy I think like C5ZO6. I feel like these cars are pretty smooth. I personally won't be trying it, but I do plan on trying IdealG's master cylinder eventually. But right now I just installed the Street Slayer and I am quite happy with the way the car feels for the first time ever.

Pretty cool. I just found this thread after I ran amuck on the internets and followed those same threads. I was going to come back here and make the same thread as the op. Only beat me by what... 5 days! Lmao.
I wonder if any V6'ers would be willing to try this and report their findings. |

Sounds like a few people are going to try it and see if it helps. If it helps with the 1 to 2 shift it will be worth it, the rest of the gear feel fine to me.

I think my stock TR6060 is the nicest shifting transmission I've ever driven...T56's are VERY notchy/heavy compared to TR6060's. I'd leave it alone.

all you are doing is taking pressure off the shift detent spring. i don't recommend it because to me it screws up the positive feel of knowing you've hit the next gear and can feel generally vague. I tried this on my C5Z back in the day and put it back to stock after the initial cool factor wore off.

LOL. The Camaro TR6060 has a different design as far as the shifter dentent. The "big nut" puts pressure on side to side motion of the shifter. The front to back detent is on the front cover/bellhousing. The TR6060 have roller detent and it is very smooth. IMHO, I would not mess with it.

redux
An amateur racer suggested stiffer motor mounts and transmission mounts; the the engine torque could be the culprit. I mitigate the notchy feel by briefly pausing the shift from 2nd to 3rd, so there might be something to this theory. so... anyone with stiffer mounts and a 6M tranny want to opine? |
